The Institute for Urban and Regional Research (ISR) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW), Austria's

leading non-university research and science institution, is the only spatial science oriented non-university

involved in planning-related activities. It is engaged in the analysis of structures and the dynamics of modern

society in both urban and regional contexts, analysing population and society together with the natural, built

and social environment. The ISR emphasises the multi-perspective and transdisciplinary approach to research,

placing societal problems or scientific investigation at the heart of the analysis, independent of disciplinary

parameters. The institute is offering a

**POSTDOC POSITION (F*M)**
(part-time / 30 h per week)

starting April 01**st**, 2023.

**Your tasks**:

- Collaboration in two EU-projects (D.Rad and Oppattune), which are on the one hand about public space,

social cohesion, polarization and on the other hand about the spread of extremist narratives in online and

offline settings
- Refining the project design (Oppattune) in collaboration with the project lead
- Independent implementation of qualitative interviews and focus groups
- Processing and analysis of qualitative data with a focus on social media
- Analysing the spread of extremist narratives from digital media in local offline settings
- Co-authoring the publication of project results in renowned scientific journals

**Your profile**:

- Doctorate in social sciences with a focus on spatially oriented social research (geography, sociology,

political science or a similar degree with a focus on spatially oriented analyses)
- Proven expertise in the research areas of deradicalization, extremism, and urban studies
- Excellent qualitative methodological skills and experience in conducting qualitative interviews
- Experience working with digital research methods and data sets from social media
- Excellent proficiency in German and English
- Self-reflective research approach and willingness to critically engage with one’s own role in the field
- Team orientation, creativity, independence
