The Bergthaler lab is recruiting ambitious postdoctoral fellows eager to work at the interface of microbial research, surveillance, wastewater monitoring, epidemiology and public health.

We are a diverse and international research group (18 team members, 10 nationalities) at the Medical University of Vienna in Austria. Vienna is a vibrant hotspot for immunology and molecular biology research, and happens to be one of the most liveable cities worldwide (e.g. The Economist 2023).

Our research spans immunology, infectious diseases, genomic epidemiology and surveillance. Results thereof are published in leading journals including _Nature, Nature Biotechnology, Nature Immunology, Science Translational Medicine, Immunity_ and _Science Immunology_ (Pubmed).

We hone a highly collaborative team spirit, diversity and mentoring, and aim to push the limits of fundamental research to make a difference to infectious diseases and public health. Our group is also very active in science communication and citizen science.

The advertised postdoctoral positions will be embedded within the newly established Cluster of Excellence “Microbiomes Drive Planetary Health” across 8 Austrian research institutions. This is a new funding instrument by the Austrian Science Funds, providing long-term funding for outstanding interdisciplinary consortia to perform cutting-edge research and excellent training.
