**Role Summary**:
**Key Responsibilities**:
Part of the job involves receiving inventions and analyzing them with regard to their novelty. For this purpose, the patent searcher contacts the inventors in order to understand the idea and to set up and carry out a novelty search in a search tool. The inventions come from all technical fields in which Magna is active. The search tool is web-based databases such as Clarivate et al.

Another part of the activity is checking whether a product is free of third-party property rights. The so-called product clearance is carried out on the basis of a product definition, whereby the patent searcher independently develops a search strategy in cooperation with the respective Magna internal client. This search strategy is then implemented and queried in a search tool. The search results must be pre-filtered, i.e. read and evaluated. The search results are independently discussed by the patent searcher with the internal clients or the developers. The result of the process is a final report in which the results are summarized and filed.

**Knowledge and Education**:
A patent engineer must be able to understand a wide variety of technical solutions. This is achieved by studying natural sciences or engineering at a university or university of applied sciences or by training as a patent engineer. The topics to be dealt with within the patent department suggest that an engineering degree with a focus on vehicle mechanics or vehicle electronics is advantageous. However, increasing digitalization also requires basic knowledge of control systems, regulations and software.

**Key Qualifications/Requirements**:
The patent searcher must be a service provider who is willing to work and engage in continuous learning. There must be a willingness to carefully analyze even very extensive search results. It is important to be able to reach a common opinion in discussions with specialist departments and clients. The patent searcher must be able to conduct searches in German as well as in English and to discuss them. A good technical understanding as well as the ability to prepare for a new topic in a short time frame are also required.

**Work Experience**:
Work experience is desirable if it extends to patent research. However, it is not a prerequisite for filling the position.
