The position advertised here is linked to the research platform "The Challenge of Urban Futures: governing the complexities in European cities". The aim of the platform is to unravel the social, cultural, economic and political-institutional mechanisms underlying urban change in order to trace the transformations of the European urban model over the last four decades.
How to address growing inequality, cynicism, distrust, and alienation? An ascendant municipalist movement argues that we should look for the answers at the local level. Administrators and activists from cities like Barcelona, Berlin, London, Naples, Amsterdam, and Vienna have formed an international network to develop original and courageous ideas to deepen local democracy so that citizens are empowered. Municipalism seeks to reinvent and reinvigorate local democracy by pushing back against overbearing bureaucracies and overpowering market forces. While the commitment to municipalism is strong and the momentum palpable, a key question is how. How can local governments and civil societies gain control over their economies and cities? To answer this question, the Municipal Neighborhood Experiments (MUNEX) examines municipalist policy experiments in three cities: Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Vienna.

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. C with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

**Profile**:
Ongoing bachelor's degree or master's degree or diploma degree, specialization in sociology or related fields of study w/ a focus on urban studies, research interest in climate change adaptation and mitigation, climate governance, sustainable urban planning - Competences in quantitative and qualitative methods - IT user skills - Very good command of written and spoken English
High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing - Self-reliance, sense of responsibility and reliability - Ability to work in a team - Flexibility - Knowledge of university procedures and structures is an advantage
