The research group Physics of Nanostructured Materials (PNM) at the Faculty of Physics studies the fundamental physics of novel materials, such as graphene and other 2D materials, in the context of atomic resolution microscopy and spectroscopy involving structural manipulation using electron and ion irradiation. Over the past decade, the group has developed a unique experimental infrastructure that combines an atomic-resolution scanning transmission electron microscope in the same vacuum system with experimental stations for atomic-force microscopy, sample manipulation via physical vapor deposition and low-energy plasma ion irradiation. PNM is in the process of upgrading the microscope at the heart of the setup into an instrument capable of, e.g., meV energy resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy, in situ electric measurements, sample cooling with liquid helium, light injection and collection for optical spectroscopy, in situ microscopy in low-pressure gas atmospheres, and modern 4D-STEM data acquisition.

**Key responsibilities**:
You actively participate in research, teaching and administration. Specifically, your responsibilities include:
- Maintenance and development of the research infrastructure including, but not limited to, the unique vacuum system containing the state-of-the-art scanning transmission electron microscope described above.
- Development and implementation of new imaging techniques.
- Participation in ongoing research projects (including assistance with instrumentation, measurement techniques and data analysis), and carrying out research that complements the other research projects of PNM.
- Publishing of scientific results in peer-reviewed publications and participation in international scientific meetings and public relations campaigns.
- Teaching according to the collective bargaining agreement.
- Administrative tasks within PNM and the faculty.
- Occasional participation in organization of meetings, conferences and symposiums.
**Your qualifications**:
- Completed doctoral degree in physics or a related field.
- Several years of experience in maintaining and development of experimental instrumentation including (scanning) transmission electron microscopy, ultra-high vacuum technology, chemical vapor deposition setups or other similar systems, and electronics.
- Several years of active scientific research after obtaining a doctorate, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (C1 Level or equivalent).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills and ability to present research findings effectively.
- Track record in obtaining research funding is an advantage.
- Basic skills in scientific programming are expected, and good skills in Python are an advantage.
- Didactic experience is an advantage.
