This position is located at the United Nations Security and Safety Service (SSS-Vienna), Division for Management, United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV).

The Security and Safety Service (SSS) consists of the Office of the Chief and three Units: Operations, Special Operations and Operations Support.

The Operations Unit consists of the following Teams: Perimeter Team, Fire Team and the Tour Teams.

The Special Operations Unit consists of the Pass and ID Team, and the Special Services Team, which is composed of the following Teams: Close Protection and Surveillance Detection Team, Executive Floors Team, Conference Security Team, Emergency Response Team, and Canine Team.

The Operations Support Unit consists of the following Teams: Security Administration Team, Security Planning Team, Security Risk Management Team, Physical Security Team, Security Investigations Team and the Training and Development Team.

Under the overall command of the Chief of Service the Security Inspector is required to perform armed security functions and reports directly to the Chief, Deputy Chief or Assisting Chief of Service.

**Responsibilities**:
Within limits of delegated authority, the Security Inspector may be responsible for the following duties in the assigned areas of work:

- Consult with and advise the Chief, Deputy Chief or Assistant Chief of Service on all matters and activities of concern planned or taking place within the Vienna International Centre (VIC).
- Manage and coordinate all responsibilities, activities and operations of SSS-Vienna.
- Ensure that the established goals and objectives of the Service work plan are accomplished in accordance with prescribed priorities, time limitations and financial conditions.
- Conduct regular briefings with subordinate supervisory personnel.
- Directly supervise subordinate supervisory personnel and oversee the performance of all other staff under command.
- Determine work schedules and make adjustments thereto in light of changing requirements to ensure that all posts are properly and effectively staffed and supervised.
- Ensure the availability of all relevant resources to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the Service.
- Recommend and advise on matters concerning the organisation and management of the Service.
- Assist in the preparation and management of budget proposals and performance reports.
- Participate, as directed, in recruitment and selection panels.
- Coordinate security plans in consultation with the Chief, Deputy or Assistant Chief of Service, officials of the Secretariat departments and external representatives.
- Coordinate emergency response operations or periods of heightened security until properly relieved.
- Ensure that all incidents and complaints reported are effectively addressed and appropriate measures taken to prevent reoccurrences and improve procedures.
- Assume the responsibilities of the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Service in the absence of the Chief, the Deputy and the Assistant Chief of Service.
- Perform all other work-related duties as required.
