**University Assistant (post doc)**
**at **the **Center for Science Education Research (AECCs)**

At the Centre for Teacher Education of Vienna University the Austrian Educational Competence Centre for Biology (AECC Biology) conducts scientific research in the field of teaching and learning of Biology and seeks to fill the position of a Post-Doc in Biology Education (VwGr. B1 lit. B, 100%, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement) as soon as possible. We pursue innovative, research-, teaching
- and developmental projects with practical relevance in a national and international context and contribute to the advancement of Biology education in schools and other learning institutions. Current research foci of our team are the development of students' scientific inquiry skills, Education for Sustainable Development/Environmental education and Climate Change Education, professional development of (future) Biology teachers and the effectiveness of informal learning environments.

**Duration of employment**: 6 year/s

**Extent of Employment**: 40 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

Active participation in research, teaching and administration, this implies:

- Establishment or expansion of an independent research profile
- Participation in research projects / scientific studies
- International peer reviewed publications, talks/lectures
- Preparation/completion of a cumulative "Habilitation"
- Independent teaching of courses in accordance with the provisions of the collective agreement
- Supervision of students, in particular supervision of B.Ed. and M.Ed. theses
- Joint lead of the Teaching-and-Learning Laboratory AECC Biology or the Research and Teaching Apiary "Bee.Ed"
- Establishment of biology education research, preferably within the current research fields of the AECC Biology
- Participation in evaluation measures and quality control
- Participation in the administration of research, teaching and the institute

**Profile**:

- Experience and knowledge in teaching biological contents, e. g. in school or informal learning settings, in museums, within citizen science projects
- Knowledge of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods as well as statistical methods
- Experience and knowledge in publishing and aquisition of third party funding
- High quality in own teaching, teaching experience with e-learning tools
- High level of written and oral expression
- Excellent written and spoken English
- EDP user skills
- Ability to work in a team

The following are also expected:

- Experience and knowledge in the area of biology education research
- Experience in participating in research projects
- Publications in renowned, relevant media (peer-reviewed)
- International talks/lectures
- Knowledge of university procedures and structures
- Experience abroad
- Experience in student support
- Communication and organisational skills
