Research and teaching at the Department of English and American Studies cover literary and cultural studies, linguistics as well as teacher education. The department employs more than sixty members. At present, almost 4000 students are enrolled in its Bachelor, Master, PhD and Teacher Education programmes.
Employment will be initially limited to 1.5 years and automatically extended to a total of 4 years, unless the employer submits a declaration of non-renewal after a maximum of 12 months.

**Extent of Employment**: 30 hours/week
Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: -48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
Participation in research, teaching and administration:
- Participation in research projects / research studies
- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations
- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement
- Supervision of students
- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums
- Involvement in the department administration as well as in teaching and research administration
**Profile**:
MA degree in English, Irish or Anglophone literature (except American Studies)
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
- Methodological skills in literary studies and literary theory
- IT user skills
- Ability to work in a team
Desirable qualifications/skills are:
- Teaching experience / experience of working with e-learning
- Knowledge of university processes and structures
- Experience abroad
- Basic experience in research methods and academic writing
- German language skills or a willingness to learn German
- An interest in gender studies and queer theory
- methodological skills or interest in Gender Studies and/or Queer Theory
