**What You’ll Do**
GutOMICS lab is interested in the reciprocal interaction between the luminal environment (both the gut microbiome and the content) and the gut and how the two maintain physiological homeostasis and contribute to health and disease.
Under the general supervision of Research Team Leader, the incumbent will independently manage all aspects of the research laboratory and conduct independent research tasks. Incumbent has dual functions in scientific research and laboratory management in a microbiome and metabolism lab. With the help of the incumbent, the laboratory will be able to study the effects of specific bacterial functions and to test whether functional manipulations of the gut microbiome can lead to discovery of novel gut modulators.
**You Bring**
- Experience with molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, qRT-PCR, DNA/RNA purification, gel electrophoresis, generating RNA and DNA libraries for next generation sequencing) with the ability to carry out a variety of technical procedures with mínimal instruction or supervision.
- Laboratory management: Ensures planning, organizing, and overseeing the daily operations of the respective laboratory area (incl. infrastructure, tools etc.) with full compliance to company policies _id est_ the DSM SHE policy together with internal as well as external safety and labor law regulations; assesses potential risks and deviations and develops and implements appropriate measures and mitigation plans.
- Experience working in gut microbiome experiments.
- Experience in Immunology (e.g. flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, etc)
- Nice to have: Familiarity with handling BSL-2 bacteria, mammalian cell culture - isolation of primary cells and or organoid culture from different hosts plus typical immunoassays (Proliferation assays, Cytotoxicity tests, Reporter assays, TEER measurements ).
- Enthusiasm for learning and genuine interest in scientific research. Willingness and ability to learn new skills, research methods, and scientific principles.
- Ability to take direction, be detail-oriented and follow step-wise instruction.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively on a research project. Ability to maintain a high level of motivation to contribute to cutting-edge research, and seek and learn new experimental methods as required.
- Successful, positive interpersonal oral and written communication skills
- Experience and skill with MS Office programs and statistics (e.g. R) software
**Educational Requirements**:
Theoretical knowledge or Bachelor’s /Master’s degree in a biological life science or related discipline or equivalent education and experience.
