This position is located in the Russian Translation and Text Processing Section (RTTS) of the Conference Management Service (CMS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). The incumbent will be working under the direct supervision of the Chief of the Section.
**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the incumbent will be responsible for the following specific duties:
- Translate, mostly without revision, texts submitted mainly by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV), the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA), the Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization (CTBTO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and by other entities as required.
- Meet the established workload and quality standards.
- Develop new terminology for use where none exists in the target language; carry out linguistic research and participate in the preparation of online terminology records and glossaries, technical vocabularies and related reference tools.
- Participate in drafting or consistency groups.
- Supervise the work of small groups of translators during meetings by acting as focal point for meetings, including during early and night shifts.
- Perform quality control of outsourced documents.
- Perform other work related duties as required.

Education
A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status is required.
Scientific, technical or legal studies will be considered an asset.
Job - Specific Qualification
Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing is required.
Of the aforementioned five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing, a minimum of three years of working experience within a multilingual setting is desirable.
Of the aforementioned five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim reporting, copy preparing, proofreading or production editing, a minimum of three years of revision experience is desirable.
Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is required.
Experience working within the United Nations or a similar international organization is desirable.
