Master Thesis "Automatic generation of realistic models of large-scale electricity distribution networks using open-source data"

- Our research team explores new approaches to power system planning and operation. To decarbonize power systems, new technologies and energy resources such as renewable distributed electricity generation the integration of electrical vehicles, smart buildings, as well as energy storage is necessary.
- These technologies are making the power system more complex and challenging to operate and plan using traditional approaches.
- One challenge for related investigations and analysis is the lack of large-scale power system models, which are representative for the current and future grid scenarios.
- Under the guidelines of our colleagues, you will develop a new methodology for automatically generating distribution system models.
- Starting from publicly available GIS data, you are going to derive large distribution network models with realistic topologies.
- Open-source databases will be used to populate the network with accurate load profiles, and distributed energy resources.
- The generated models will be used in power systems analysis tools such as DigSILENT Power Factory and will be included into AIT's developments on real-lime simulation of cyber-physical systems.
- You gain experience in power system modelling and simulation.
- You train scientific working and have the opportunity to discuss experiences with scientific experts.

Your qualifications as an
** Ingenious Partner**:

- Ongoing master’s studies in the field of energy informatics, industrial automation, electrical engineering, or similar.
- Solid Python programming skills
- Previous experience related to electrical power systems is a plus
- Team player with a curious and determined attitude
- Working proficiency in English

**What to expect**:
EUR 890;
- gross per month for 20 hours/week based on the collective agreement. There will be additional company benefits. You will be part of our international Young AIT network. As a research institution, we are familiar with the supervision and execution of master’s theses, and we are looking forward to supporting you accordingly.
