This position is located in the Core Operations Unit (COU), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna /United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNOV/UNODC), in Vienna, Austria. The Senior Information Technology Assistant (Team Leader) will work under the direct supervision of Computer Information Systems Officer (Service Delivery and Conference ICT Coordination) and the overall supervision to the Service Delivery Officer in the Office of the Chief, ITS.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Senior Information Technology Assistant (Team Leader) will be responsible for leading the unit. This involves activities related to both technical and administrative competence as well as including the following specific duties:

- Provide high quality, timely and cost-effective information technology and telecommunications services.
- Deploy integrated messaging, including IP telephony. Roll new systems in a systematic way taking into consideration technology changes.
- Provision ICT backend support for UNODC field offices including Voice over IP communication and backup of field office files on Vienna facilities and in the cloud.
- Provision ICT security services. Ensure that measures are taken to monitor and secure all UNOV/UNODC systems.
- Maintain and enhance local and wide-area networks. Take necessary measures to keep improving performance.
- Maintain and ensure continuous operation of the storage area network (SAN), server farms, and backup.
- Support projects as required.
- Coordinate unit activities and guide and supervise the teams.
- Supervise the teams’ work. Distribute work assignments to team members and monitor progress.
- Provide guidance and training to new/junior staff.
- Ensure proper human resources for the unit using WSP, RB and non-RB funding.
- Plan and act on procurement of equipment, software and service contracts.
- Manage own time and that of COU. Ensure unit keeps abreast of latest technical information and provide technical assistance and guidance where necessary.
- Ensure cooperation and compliance with OICT in New York and Geneva in particular, but also with all other IT offices.
- Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
- Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
- Perform other work-related duties, as requested.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. Certification in Prince 2 Foundation project management training in ITIL is desirable. Supplementary courses/technical certificates in information technology is desirable.

Having passed the Administrative Support Assessment Test [in English] at the United Nations headquarters, Economic Commission for Africa, Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia, United Nations Office at Geneva, United Nations Office at Vienna, International criminal tribunal for Rwanda or International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia may be accepted in lieu of the GGS
