Siemens Mobility is at the forefront of providing eco-friendly railway solutions. We are dedicated to enhancing seamless cross-border travel in Europe by developing innovative push-pull trains capable of reaching speeds of up to 230 km/h. As a leader in passenger transport, we continuously enhance our rolling stock portfolio, ensuring that high-end technical solutions meet the rigorous demands of our customers for reliable, available, and safe operations.

We are currently in search of a highly skilled individual to lead our Software Development Department in Vienna or Graz. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the comprehensive train control software and passenger-centric features on our trains, such as onboard internet, passenger Wi-Fi, and information systems that facilitate data transfer from the ground to the train.

This position allows you to actively shape the future of sustainable high-speed cross-border train services in Europe.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor a team of approximately 30 engineers, organized into three specialized teams.
  • Manage vehicle control, diagnostics, testing, and IT systems for passenger coaches.
  • Shape development activities within your teams while fostering collaboration across departments and locations, particularly with our engineering sites in Germany, the Czech Republic, and Hungary.
  • Collaborate with your team to develop technical concepts for vehicle control systems and passenger-related features based on market demands from sales and product management.
  • Provide technical guidance to your team in integrating and developing control system software for our rail vehicles tailored for the European market.
  • Oversee project costs, timelines, and quality, providing regular updates to project and line management.
  • Engage with customers, suppliers, and other Siemens locations, primarily in Germany and the Czech Republic.

Required Skills

  • Strong motivation to lead the software department with a focus on efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Extensive experience in team leadership and line management, with a proven ability to organize team workflows efficiently.
  • A completed technical degree in fields such as electrical, software, mechanical, or railway engineering.
  • Preferably, several years of professional experience in software development within vehicle or automation technology.
  • Knowledge of railway or vehicle technology is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in English and a B2 level in German.
  • International work experience is a plus.
  • A leadership style centered on empowerment and a growth mindset, fostering skill development among team members.

Additional Information

We offer a competitive remuneration package commensurate with your qualifications and experience. The minimum gross annual salary for this position, as per the collective agreement, is EUR 95,000, with the potential for a higher salary based on your education, experience, and overtime. As a large corporation, Siemens also provides additional social benefits.
