The Oncology Support Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering essential consultation, clinical evaluation, treatment, referral, and counseling services tailored for individuals affected by cancer and their families. As an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, the Specialist contributes to holistic, patient-centered cancer care throughout the cancer journey.
This position involves providing education on psychosocial oncology and supportive care to patients, families, healthcare staff, and community organizations as necessary. The Specialist maintains robust professional connections with provincial psychosocial oncology experts and stays informed about national practice standards. Additionally, the Specialist supports program evaluation efforts and may engage in research and educational initiatives.
The Specialist is expected to demonstrate initiative and independent judgment in establishing work priorities, selecting appropriate work methods, and addressing unique challenges. The role is performed in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health-Santé Sud, as well as its policies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Nursing (BN/RN), Psychiatric Nursing (BPSN/RPN), or a related mental health discipline, including a clinical internship from an accredited program.
- Preference for candidates with a Master's degree.
- Eligibility for licensure with the relevant provincial regulatory body.
- Familiarity with Regional and Provincial CancerCare services and resources is advantageous.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Outlook.
- A minimum of three (3) years of relevant clinical practice experience.
- At least three (3) to five (5) years of clinical counseling experience within a healthcare environment.
- Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting.
- Good physical and mental health to perform the duties of the position consistently.
- Proven competence in clinical skills, including psychosocial assessments and counseling interventions.
- Demonstrates professional responsibility and accountability while exercising a high degree of autonomy in service delivery.
- Exhibits Southern Health-Santé Sud Core Competencies and/or Management & Leadership competencies.
- Given the cultural diversity of the region, the ability to respect and promote a culturally diverse population is essential.
- Proficiency in both official languages is mandatory for designated bilingual roles.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality across various formats.
- Proven capability to meet the physical and mental demands of the role.
- Strong work ethic and attendance record.
Conditions of Employment
- A valid Class 5 driver's license, access to an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance coverage of at least $1,000,000.00 are required.
