Electrical Engineer II Job Description

As an Electrical Engineer II at FORTNA, you will play a key role in designing and documenting electrical and pneumatic controls for our Material Handling Systems (MHS). You will lead medium scope projects through the detail design and implementation phase, ensuring successful project implementation.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead medium scope projects through the detail design and implementation phase.
  • Provide electrical system input to Project Engineers during design review meetings.
  • Support Project Engineers during transition from Detailed Design to Final Engineering.
  • Review and provide Electrical Engineering input to Description of Operation (DOO) & Functional Specification (FSD) documentation.
  • Facilitate project meetings as required by project cadence.
  • Provide Electrical Engineering input to MHS implementation plan.
  • Develop Electrical Engineering work plan to ensure successful project milestone achievements.
  • Assist Project Engineers during Speeds & Feeds review.
  • Lead Controls Layout review meetings with internal teams and Clients.
  • Support Project Engineers to achieve design acceptance.
  • Lead and direct support resources during development of project deliverables.
  • Ensure deliverables meet Drawing Quality Control (DQC) requirements.
  • Update project team on the current status of project.
  • Manage electrical scope utilizing DOO and FSD.
  • Escalate risks to Project Engineers and Engineering team.
  • Lead electrical prototype efforts for less complex solutions.
  • Conduct site visits to assist with installation and commissioning support activities.
  • Attend Client meetings as required.
  • Support development of lessons learned document.
  • Follow and provide input for improvement of DQC process.
  • Support generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures.
  • Constantly work to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest technology.
  • Utilize E-plan and Promis-e for drawings.
  • Continuously work to solve Client needs.
  • Proactively seek work to maintain project utilization.
  • Use current design practices for material handling systems.
  • Adhere to all Fortna and department standards.
  • Maintain good design notes.
  • Attend and/or perform company training as required.
  • Be reliable; provide timely responses and consistent follow-up.
Qualifications:
  • 4-year engineering degree from an accredited college with 3-5 years of relevant experience, or 2-year degree from an accredited college with 5-7 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with 15 years of relevant experience in electrical design of complex automated material handling systems.
  • Conveyor control process experience (photoeyes, solenoids, variable frequency drive, line scanner, print and apply application).
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with and manage multiple suppliers.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performance.
  • Advanced collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal communication).
  • Experience working with MS Project and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment for position.
  • Proficient in the use of E-Plan for electrical design.
  • Flexible and approachable.
  • Ability to self-motivate.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally in support of our projects.

Desired qualifications include experience managing Engineering projects requiring collaboration between multiple Engineering work streams, experience leading and directing support resources in Engineering design environment, UL, NEC, NFPA, OSHA design requirements, 480VAC motor control panel design experience, strong comprehension of Profi, Ethernet IP, Ethercat network design and requirements, and strong leadership skills.
