The Role

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer II to join our Electrical Engineering team. As a leader and task-based role, you will be responsible for designing and documenting electrical and pneumatic controls of our Material Handling Systems (MHS). Your expertise will be instrumental in producing high-quality electrical designs that meet our clients' needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead medium scope and less complex projects through the detail design and implementation phase, including development of RFP/Supplier Selection requirements, electrical control panel phasing plans, and design approval packages.
  • Provide electrical system input to Project Engineer during design review meetings to ensure electrical requirements are understood.
  • Support Project Engineer during transition from Detailed Design to Final Engineering.
  • Review and provide Electrical Engineering input to Description of Operation (DOO) & Functional Specification (FSD) documentation.
  • Facilitate project meetings as required by project cadence, producing meeting agendas and providing meeting minutes to team members.
  • Provide Electrical Engineering input to MHS implementation plan.
  • Develop Electrical Engineering work plan to ensure successful project milestone achievements.
  • Assist Project Engineer during Speeds & Feeds review.
  • Lead Controls Layout review meetings with internal teams and Client, supporting Project Engineer to achieve design acceptance.
  • Lead and direct support resources during development of project deliverables, ensuring deliverables meet Drawing Quality Control (DQC) requirements.
  • Update project team on the current status of project, compiling project status reports and attending project update meetings.
  • Manage electrical scope utilizing DOO and FSD.
  • Escalate risks to Project Engineer and Engineering team.
  • Lead electrical prototype efforts for less complex solutions, including development of prototyping plan and communication of scope.
  • Conduct site visits to assist with installation and commissioning support activities.
  • Attend Client meetings as required.
  • Support development of lessons learned document.
  • Follow and provide input for improvement of DQC process.
  • Support generation and enhancement of department standard documentation and procedures to improve the quality and efficiency of the Engineering Group.
  • Continuously work to expand knowledge of industry best practices and latest technology.
  • Utilize E-plan and Promis-e for drawings.
  • Proactively seek work to maintain project utilization.
  • Use current design practices for material handling systems.
  • Adhere to all Fortna and department standards.
  • Maintain good design notes.
  • Attend and/or perform company training as required.
  • Be reliable, providing timely responses and consistent follow-up.

Qualifications

  • 4-year engineering degree from an accredited college with 3-5 years of relevant experience, or 2-year degree from an accredited college with 5-7 years of relevant experience, or high school diploma with 15 years of relevant experience in electrical design of complex automated material handling systems.
  • Conveyor control process experience (photoeyes, solenoids, variable frequency drive, line scanner, print and apply application).
  • Knowledge of and ability to work with and manage multiple suppliers.
  • Ability to work effectively on a team and support high levels of performance.
  • Advanced collaboration and communication skills (written and verbal communication).
  • Experience working with MS Project and MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in standard design of relevant material handling equipment for position.
  • Proficient in the use of E-Plan for electrical design.
  • Flexible and approachable.
  • Ability to self-motivate.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally in support of our projects.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience managing Engineering projects requiring collaboration between multiple Engineering work streams.
  • Experience leading and directing support resources in Engineering design environment.
  • UL, NEC, NFPA, OSHA design requirements.
  • 480VAC motor control panel design experience.
  • Strong comprehension of Profi, Ethernet IP, Ethercat network design and requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills.
