We want our people to feel that all voices are heard, all cultures respected and that a variety of perspectives are not only welcome – they are essential to our success.
We treat each other fairly and with dignity regardless of race, gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, age, sexual orientation or anything else that makes us who we are.
At Rio Tinto, we particularly welcome and encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, women, the LGBTI+ community, mature workers, people with disabilities and people from different cultural backgrounds.
We acknowledge that all people are different and believe that our differences are our strength.
The diversity of skills, life experiences and perspectives within our team enhances our way of working and our ability to achieve success together.
About The Role We are looking for a Heritage Specialist to lead and support key heritage management initiatives that include the preservation and management of cultural heritage and the fulfilment of Traditional Owner (TO) commitments.

This is an exciting opportunity to:

Provide technical advice on heritage management and ensure alignment with organisational and legislative structures and processes.
Support and train site-based teams to problem-solve and enhance awareness and knowledge of cultural heritage issues.
Engage with key internal and external stakeholders to foster collaboration and understanding.
Manage and deliver approvals processes, ensuring compliance with all heritage requirements.
Key responsibilities include: Supporting the transition of Heritage Advisors to site-based teams, including training and awareness of systems and TO commitments.
Leading end-to-end project and contractor management activities, including scoping, negotiation, onboarding, quality control and reporting.
Conducting and facilitating end-to-end fieldwork and off-site activities such as heritage surveys and consultations.
Developing and maintaining heritage operational preparedness plans.
Preparing consultation materials for key stakeholder engagements, site and study-related activities, and management of GIS information.
Developing and authorising approval permits, heritage management controls/plans and delivering technical heritage advice.
Building and maintaining relationships with Traditional Owners and their representative bodies and other key stakeholders.
About You To succeed in this role, you will have:
A degree in archaeology, anthropology, cultural heritage studies (or related field), or cultural mapping.
Proven experience in cultural heritage studies and fieldwork, with a focus on heritage consultations and project management, approvals processes, and familiarity with heritage legal frameworks.
Proficiency with GIS and heritage information management systems.
Strong stakeholder relationship management skills, including experience engaging with land-connected peoples.
Demonstrated understanding of cultural heritage management planning and scheduling.
Prior exposure with the resources or extractive industries and modes of operation.
Experience managing sites of high cultural importance.
Your ability to collaborate effectively, manage priorities, and deliver results in complex environments will set you apart in this role.
What we offer Be recognised for your contribution, your thinking and your hard work, and go home knowing you've helped the world progress.
A work environment where safety is always the number one priority.
A permanent position working directly for Rio Tinto.
A competitive base salary reflective of your skills and experience with annual incentive bonus.
Comprehensive medical benefits including subsidised private health insurance for employees and immediate family.
Attractive share ownership plan.
Company provided insurance cover.
Extensive salary sacrifice & salary packaging options.
Career development & education assistance to further your technical or leadership ambitions.
Ongoing access to family-friendly health and medical wellbeing support.
Leave for all of life's reasons (vacation/annual, paid parental, sick leave, cultural leave).
To better suit different family needs, our paid parental leave approach gives all parents the option to take 18 weeks of paid leave after a new child arrives – at a time that suits them.
Exclusive employee discounts including hotel stays, banking, accommodation, cars, retail and more.
