Scientist - Microbiology/MDU Department, Queensland Health Join our hard-working team based in Rockhampton.
This is an exciting, fixed term temporary full-time opportunity for 12 months.
The purpose of this position is to assist in the provision of an effective and efficient pathology service to clients of Central Queensland.
Key Responsibilities include:
Develop and maintain protocols, standards and procedures within the MDU discipline and suite of tests in accordance with prescribed standards.
Provide guidance and train other staff.
Perform analyser maintenance and troubleshooting and maintain consumable stocks.
Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory producing effective work output and a high quality of service delivery.
Build and maintain effective professional relationships with clients and colleagues providing advice and assistance in a professional, friendly and helpful manner.
Develop scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning and by engaging in professional development activities.
Commensurate with level of experience, and with the guidance of senior staff, provide education and supervision for less experienced practitioners including operational staff, students or support staff.
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
Relevant knowledge, skill and expertise, at a minimum, obtained through relevant tertiary education, but increasing commensurate with experience.
Demonstrated ability to apply scientific judgement in MDU and Microbiology.
Demonstrated effective oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to deliver training required in the Microbiology and MDU laboratory.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member, to produce an effective work output in terms of quality and quantity.
Demonstrated knowledge of, and ability to comply with organisational policies and procedures, and assist the laboratory to comply with all relevant legislative, administrative, and professional standards including meeting NATA / ISO / TGA accreditation / certification requirements.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements:
The successful applicant must hold at least a tertiary Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification.
Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor / manager prior to the commencement of duties.
Active membership of a relevant professional association would be well-regarded but not compulsory.
