About the team An exciting opportunity has become available to be part of our expert Legal, Risk and Compliance team that supports Coles stores across the country.
This will be a fast paced role with a high volume of requests due to the size and structure of the organisation, with a key focus to provide advice and support to the Coles Liquor business to help deliver its strategy.
About the role As Senior Legal Counsel you will assist with providing advice, support and guidance to secure new liquor licences , review and monitor licensing risks and obligations, work with the national operations teams to ensure there are robust polices and procedures in place to support Coles' ability to trade safely and responsibly and engage with key internal and external stakeholders in the licensing, regulatory and compliance space.
You'll also: · Prepare, lodge and facilitate new store, renewal and amendment applications for liquor, tobacco and food licences timely and effectively.
· Act as an SME for all licensing and regulatory matters for Coles.
· Effectively engage and advocate on behalf of Coles with external regulators, authorities and government agencies in the licensing, regulatory and compliance space.
· Manage resolutions and risk mitigation actions and follow up with stakeholders, regulators and enforcement agencies.
· Conduct risk assessments and analysis on legislative and regulatory restrictions that affect Coles.
· Prepare, review and monitor updates to laws and regulations and the regulatory compliance framework nationally, as well as internal policies and procedures on a continual basis and as directed.
· Provide timely, accurate and trusted licensing, regulatory and commercial advice to support operations teams.
· Working with stakeholders and the business on licensing training and education initiatives to ensure best practice.
About you and your skills • Qualifications in areas of legal, compliance, government, regulatory or policy • Specialist experience in liquor licensing, regulatory, planning and commercial law preferred.
• Extensive experience working with governments, regulators, external stakeholders and local authorities including the ability to advocate on behalf of Coles.
• Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and negotiations skills.
• The ability to drive your own workload/outcomes and work autonomously.
• Diligence and attention to detail in the work you do.
• Excellent language, written communication and negotiation skills.
