Lead Psychiatrist Virtual Care Centre

Job Description The Role The Psychiatrist Lead VCC will provide clinical leadership, strategic oversight and expert guidance in the delivery of mental health services for immigration detention.
Reporting directly to the Medical Advisor you will be responsible for providing clinical and professional leadership for HSA mental health professionals, overseeing clinical quality, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulatory standards.
This position will work closely with executive and clinical teams, playing a pivotal role in developing mental health programs, driving improvements in the quality of mental health services and improving patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Oversee the clinical governance and operations of mental health services, across the immigration detention network.
Provide clinical expertise on mental health services to HSA VCC, Detention health and other external stakeholders.
Develop, and maintain relationships with key external stakeholders including government departments, healthcare ogranisations and regulatory bodies.
Regular attendance at national and site CCRC meetings.
Provide advice regarding Fitness to Travel.
Provide clinical expertise to HSA staff for complex mental health cases.
Adapt HSA mental health services to changing needs.
Contribute to the development and implementation of clinical policies and procedures for the HSA mental health service.
Engage in consultation and liaison with external health care providers Undertake clinical incident reviews and work in conjunction with Medical Adviser and Operations Managers to implement corrective actions as required.
Ensure regular audits of HSA mental health services.
Engage in continuous quality improvement projects regarding HSA mental health services.
Escalate relevant items to the clinical governance meeting.
Participate and assist in the development of training, education and professional development programs for staff.
Assist in the development of health promotion and educational materials.
Assist where appropriate with complaints management process.
Assist with the Clinical Reporting Team and with clinical advice when requested.
Provide clinical support as required at sites.
To be familiar with and develop positive and professional relationships with Department of Home Affairs and Australian Border Force staff in relation to immigration detention matters.
May be requested to prepare and present case information for legal proceedings.
Assist in the recruitment of mental health professionals, including providing advice of suitability and interviewing of candidates.
Ensuring each site is suitably resourced to deliver services safely, competently and in line with the contracted scope of work.
Any gaps in services are escalated and addressed as a priority.
Qualifications Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or Bachelor of Medicine or equivalent and with specialist registration as a psychiatrist with the Medical Board of Australia.
High desirable Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) Highly desirable RANZCP Certificate of Advanced Training in Forensic psychiatry Work Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in psychiatry, with at least 2 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
Experience working in forensic settings highly desirable.
Experience with computerised medical records and medical practice systems.
