Bring your high-level technical skills and methodical and collaborative work style to the Data and Analytics team in DTET, and help us to contribute to the important work of supporting businesses and training Queenslanders now and into the future.
Working closely with the Manager, Business Intelligence and Customer Reporting (BICR), the Senior Data Analyst contributes to the maintenance, development and implementation of various performance reporting methods and systems to monitor and project performance data pertaining to the topics of employment, small business and vocational education and training (VET).
About the role
As the Senior Data Analyst you will:
Extract, analyse, interpret and present complex data sets for distribution to internal and external clients in response to on-demand requests and annual reporting requirements.
Develop and maintain cloud-based business intelligence and data visualisation solutions to present departmental data and statistics in an accessible and user-friendly manner for distribution to internal and external clients.
Develop and maintain data collection processes in accordance with departmental standards and procedures.
Provide technical assistance and expert advice to staff on data-related projects and the appropriate use, interpretation and presentation of data.
Maintain knowledge of best practice data management techniques to ensure data presentation and sharing meets customer needs.
Liaise with other departmental officers, other government departments and the wider community to manage expectations, gain a broader knowledge of user needs/desires and to identify data sharing opportunities.
What we are looking for
The position requires an applicant who has:
Demonstrated ability in managing the collection, extraction, analysis, interpretation and reporting of complex data sets in a cloud-based environment to a high standard within tight timelines.
Demonstrated ability to participate in a work team and to interact professionally with a wide range of stakeholders.
Demonstrated professionalism and integrity in dealings with stakeholders, management and work colleagues.
Demonstrated high-level oral and written communication skills to contribute written analysis and visuals to reports, research papers, Ministerial, briefing papers and other information in the context of fostering evidence-based policy development, with the capacity to understand the audience and tailor your communication style.
Demonstrated ability to work flexibly across multiple projects and activities and manage competing priorities.
It is highly desirable for applicants to possess a bachelor's degree or higher in data science, statistics, mathematics, engineering, or similar quantitative field - or have at least two years' experience in a similar data analytics role.
