We are an inclusive, flexible, and productive workplace where people are treated with respect and courtesy, and diverse and unique attributes are recognised and valued.About the roleThe work of the Data Governance and Integration Group (DGIG) includes building and implementing the Institute's data integration strategies, protecting the confidentiality and privacy of Institute data holdings through data governance leadership and the AIHW Ethics Committee.Within DGIG, we are looking to fill two EL1 vacancies in the Ethics and Privacy Unit and National Disability Data Asset Unit.The key duties of the position include:Ethics and Privacy Unit (EPU):Interpret and apply legislation, policies and instruments including the Privacy Act 1988, the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Act 1987, guidelines and standards issued by the NHMRC and other key requirements and guidance relevant to the ethical conduct of research.Provide detailed advice to the committee and the Institute on a wide range of complex ethical and legislative matters.Identify, propose and implement business improvement activities to support the committee's consideration of matters requiring ethical review.Provide efficient and effective secretariat and governance support to the Ethics Committee.Manage complex projects and activities and provide professional and/or administrative support.Work collaboratively with the Unit Head and other EL1 officers within the Unit.National Disability Data Asset Unit (NDDAU):Undertake key project work, including task prioritisation and collaboration with team members and partner agencies.Provide detailed advice to relevant governance committees on data integration policy and data governance matters.Potentially provide efficient and effective secretariat and governance support to relevant NDDA governance committees.Stakeholder liaison and management over a range of state/territory and Commonwealth stakeholders.Work collaboratively with the Unit Head and other EL1 officers within the Unit.Our ideal candidate will have most or all of the following skills and knowledge:Demonstrated policy and governance skills and experience engaging with internal and external stakeholders on complex policy or legal issues.A demonstrated strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare Act 1987.A demonstrated strong understanding of the Australian ethics framework, including knowledge of the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research.Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate with influence and produce accessible written communication.Demonstrated ability to achieve results, with experience planning and managing multiple complex tasks.Proven ability to build a positive team environment and develop productive working relationships.Relevant qualifications in law, policy, research and/or research ethics and secretariat skills will be highly regarded.To be eligible to apply for this vacancy, you must:Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident.Undergo any required pre-employment checks, including a police records check.Obtain and maintain a valid Security Clearance if required by the institute.A probationary period of six (6) months will apply to any new engagement to the APS.How to applyPlease visit the AIHW Careers page and submit your application online via the AIHW e-Recruit system.Your application must include:A summary of your relevant skills and experience and explain why you would be the best person for the role.Your current CV and the names of two referees.A merit list/pool may be created from this process.
