About the Opportunity
As the Director, Major Projects, you play a key leadership role within Treasury and the team to deliver high quality outcomes that underpin the Major Project Division's work across its Major Projects or Strategic Transactions pillars.
You will provide timely, expert, strategic and authoritative advice to Treasury and Agencies to support the NSW Government in executing work across the Major Projects Division's Major Projects or Strategic Transactions pillars to progress society and improve living standards for the people of NSW.
About the Team
The Major Projects Division (MPD) is NSW Treasury's in-house major projects and strategic transactions team.
MPD provides commercial, financial and governance advice and undertakes due diligence and complex negotiations for the Treasurer and the NSW Government.
MPD is made up of three pillars:
Major Projects:
provides commercial and financial advice to agencies on funding, financing, procuring and delivering major infrastructure, energy transition, precinct development and capital projects including Public Private Partnership (PPPs);
Strategic Transactions:
leads the execution of transactions, financial due diligence, governance strategy and complex commercial and contract negotiations on behalf of the State;
Policy:
develops and administers a range of policy initiatives, in collaboration with other parts of Treasury and the NSW Government.
Achieving Success
The role will suit applicants with a range of skills and experiences and from a variety of backgrounds including those set out below.
15 to 20 years' experience in procuring and delivering large scale and complex infrastructure, energy or precinct projects or in negotiating, structuring and executing complex commercial transactions gained from public or private sector including law or professional services firm.
Substantial management experience in leading, motivating and managing a cohesive and high performing team of professionals.
Project management experience and demonstrated ability to exercise leadership, engage, negotiate and influence in dealings with diverse stakeholders.
Advanced ability to represent an organisation with authority and credibility, including strong communication and strategy skills.
Knowledge and understanding, or the demonstrated ability to develop an understanding of, the NSW Government's policies and programs, NSW's infrastructure capability and market dynamics, and key sectors relevant to the State's economic growth.
Tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in engineering, commerce, accounting, finance, law or a related discipline.
This role liaises extensively with other areas within Treasury, with NSW government agencies and equivalents in other jurisdictions across Australia, and with external stakeholders.
