Your role
The Aboriginal Commissioning Team will sit in the Partnership directorate that is overall responsible for building strong relationships between DCJ and its service providers.
The team will report directly to Policy and Practice.
The role of the Aboriginal Commissioning Team will be to facilitate engagement with the sector and communities in order to increase the number of ACCOs in line with Closing the Gap Priority Reform 2: Building the community-controlled sector.
What You'll Do
This role involves providing evidence-based advice and information to stakeholders and collaborating with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to support sector growth and service improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
Contributing to culturally informed commissioning advice.
Analysing service delivery gaps.
Engaging with service providers to enhance governance and compliance.
Conducting research to inform planning and contracting processes.
Developing complex documents for agency and ministerial needs.
Supporting new commissioning processes.
Challenges include building professional capabilities, maintaining effective stakeholder relationships, and balancing new practices with ongoing compliance.
Key relationships span internal teams, such as managers, policy branches, and commissioning teams, as well as external stakeholders, including ACCOs and community groups, to promote place-based, client-focused services.
Decision-making requires a degree of independence, with consultation on sensitive or high-risk matters.
The Aboriginal Commissioning Team is dedicated to improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, families, and communities by supporting the growth and sustainability of the Aboriginal Community Controlled sector.
The team is passionate and committed to fostering self-determination and empowerment within the ACCO sector and communities.

What We're Looking For
In addition to meeting the essential requirements, the successful candidate must have:
Experience working in partnerships with Aboriginal Community Control Organisations, Peak bodies, and Aboriginal Communities in planning and designing services and programs.
Project Management Skills: Proven experience in managing and supporting projects, including preparing reports and briefs, coordinating resources, and maintaining project documentation.
Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with key stakeholders.
Ability to facilitate the exchange of information and respond to enquiries promptly.
Time Management and Prioritisation: Demonstrated ability to deliver a range of project management and support services within tight deadlines.
Skill in managing competing priorities effectively.
The successful candidate must demonstrate cultural capability and meet the essential requirements for this identified Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander role.
As an Identified role, this position is open only to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander persons, Australia's First Nations people.

is of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent, and identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person, and is accepted as such by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community.
