Women's Legal Service Tasmania (WLST) is more than a statewide community legal service; we are a lifeline for women across Tasmania, offering comprehensive legal advice, together with an integrated practice of in-house financial counselling and social work services.
Our legal services span a dedicated telephone advice line, face-to-face appointments, community legal education, outreach, law reform submissions, and referrals to crucial support services.
With offices in Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie, WLST is funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General's Department, recognising that in addition to the general legal problems that can affect everyone, there are some areas of law in which a woman's experience is different – as a victim of a crime, as a primary carer of children, or through discrimination or lack of equal opportunity in employment or business.
Our focus is on assisting vulnerable women who have encountered family violence, sexual abuse, or discrimination.
We create a supportive work environment to maintain our staff's resilience, attuned to the diverse needs of women from various backgrounds.
We are also proud to auspice Tasmania's first Working Women's Centre in collaboration with Worker Assist Tasmania.
What We Offer Competitive Remuneration: SCHADS Award Level 3 ranging from $73,903 to $79,138 per annum plus superannuation.Extra Leave: Enjoy an additional week of annual leave to support your wellbeing, with 17.5% leave loading.Parental Leave: 12 weeks of paid parental leave (pro rata) for employees with a minimum of 12 months' service.Salary Packaging: Generous not-for-profit salary packaging and a Meal & Entertainment Card up to $18,530 through Eziway, increasing your disposable income.Wellbeing Support: Employee health and wellbeing support, flexible working practices, and bi-monthly professional supervision / counselling sessions through Relationships Australia.Professional Development: Opportunities for conferences, events, and a dedicated training budget for your professional growth.Resources and Memberships: Membership to selected professional organisations and access to dedicated legal resources.About the Role Working within our dedicated teams, the Paralegal will have the opportunity to work closely with our legal and allied professional teams to provide integrated, trauma-informed legal support to our clients.
Under the supervision of the Assistant Principal Solicitor or the Principal Solicitor, the Paralegal will provide practical support to all staff to achieve the objectives of the organisation.
We currently have two Paralegal roles available within the organisation – one working specifically within our Working Women's Centre (WWC) and one within our Temporary Visa Holders Experiencing Family Violence Program (TVP).
Although we have offices statewide, it would be preferable logistically for these positions to be based within our Launceston office.
