Construction Manager

The Eva Copper Mine (ECM) is located in North West Queensland approximately 75km north-west of Cloncurry.
The greenfield Eva Copper Mine Project is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd.
The Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years, and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator.
The project is permitted, and the mine site will include development of these pits, a copper concentrator, associated processing and non-processing services and infrastructure including tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, water management facilities, power generation and an accommodation village.

Harmony is the largest gold producer, by volume, in South Africa owning and operating numerous mining and tailings retreatment operations.
Harmony also owns and operates the Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea including holding 50% (Joint Venture with Newmont) in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project.
These Papua New Guinea assets together with the Eva Copper Mine Project are supported by the Harmony Australasia corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.

Harmony is preparing to progress the Execution Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and we are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams.
The Execution Phase will commence with front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site works will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision.
This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major forward-facing metal mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.

Reporting to the Executive General Manager – Growth Projects, the Construction Manager will coordinate all Project construction activities on site through management, planning, organising and controlling the construction value chain.
This includes providing a construction management service to three Area Project Managers (Mining, Processing and Infrastructure).

This role will also hold Senior Site Executive responsibilities for the construction phase.
Reporting into the Construction Manager will be the functions of site project services, site project engineers, health and safety, environment, and contractor construction managers.

Responsibilities include: Maintaining a safe working environment in line with OH&S legislation, company policy; standards, procedures and controls.
Responsible for all onsite construction packages and to support project objectives, meet stakeholder requirements and manage risk.
Oversees the construction site, construction and general contractors, and site workers to ensure a high level of construction safety and quality in construction.
Create and review Requests for Information and Requests for Proposal and Change Orders.
Ensures all work is performed in accordance with approved designs, manuals, procedures and specifications.
Ensures that the project is constructed and documented in accordance with the contract documents and construction practices.
Provide site construction and associated technical support to the Area Project Managers.
Develop and maintains project cost/change controls, and project budget and accounting records in accordance with the Central Project Controls office requirements.
Perform change order estimating and assists the Area Project Managers in change order negotiations.
Coordinate and monitor schedule updates, invoices, and submittals.
Assist in managing and reviewing the progress of contractors' construction schedules and progress claims.
Review package weekly and monthly reports on the status and progress of the contracts, including project costs and potential changes.
Report the status of site construction activities to project leaders.
Overseeing and directing construction projects from conception to completion (participating in design, procurement and construction assessments and execution planning).
Overseeing all onsite construction activities to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
Collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
Deploy project management expertise as a crucial element of the role in coordinating resources, resolving any issues that may arise, and delivering successful construction services to the project.
Building strong relationships with suppliers.
What you will bring to Harmony: Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
Extensive experience (20+ years) in construction of multi-disciplinary mining and processing projects and demonstrated responsibility for leading 1 to 2 projects of similar scale to EVAMP.
Preferably hold a current unrestricted QLD Senior Site Executive (SSE) qualification or ability to obtain in the near term.
Technically sound with exposure to construction methodology development and execution in high capital value multi-disciplinary project skills.
History of competent contractor management on mining infrastructure projects built on strong relationships.
Contracts administration and change management experience.
Extensive knowledge of safety standards and construction and maintenance implications and requirements particularly in relation to safety critical systems and equipment used in the construction of infrastructure associated with large, open-cut mining operations.
Location This role will be DIDO from local communities or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville to our site in Cloncurry NW QLD, with local candidates highly regarded.
Roster is 8 days on, 6 days off.
During the Front End Engineering and Design phase, candidates will be required to work in the Project office in Brisbane at times.
This is a maximum term role aligned with the project completion and close out, anticipated to be 31 December 2027.
