Youth Worker - Mount Isa Flexible School Continuing, Full TimeStart: As soon as can be negotiatedSalary: School Officer, Level 5ABOUT THE ORGANISATION: Mount Isa Flexible School is a Catholic School in the Edmund Rice tradition.
There are 23 Flexible Schools throughout Australia who offer a full-time and multiyear secondary education program for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling.
Enrolled young people may express a broad range of complex education and social needs, and flexible schools respond with a variety of flexible and innovative teaching and learning practices including vocational planning and the development of social connectedness.
The purpose of a Flexible School is to provide young people with a varied and holistic set of learning experiences supporting them to identify and pursue an individual transition to adulthood, employment, further education and training, and social connectedness.
ABOUT THE ROLE The role of the Youth Worker within our school is to support, design, and develop engagement, wellbeing, and social inclusion responses and program activities for the school that directly enhance the engagement of the young people that attend the school.
All program activities complement the educational programs on offer and support the engagement of young people's learning at the school.
Some of these programs include outdoor adventure-based learning, sports, and self-reflection workshops.

This position involves direct engagement with First Nations males aged between 11-20.
The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of Aboriginal perspectives and a genuine commitment to fostering positive relationships within the community.
Key Responsibilities include: Work closely with First Nations youth, providing support and guidance in various aspects of their lives.Foster a safe and inclusive environment that respects and celebrates cultural diversity.Strong desire to engage in sporting activities with our youth including canoeing, swimming, football, basketball, and other ABL designed activities.Knowledge and understanding of key issues for contemporary youth culture to be able to identify potential barriers impacting on young people and their families in the wider community.Ability to identify barriers to young people engaging in activities and adapt programs accordingly.Promote the values and principles of the school to ensure inclusion, empowerment, and youth development when developing and implementing program activities.Commitment to work under the four principles of operation: Respect, Safe and Legal, Honesty, and Participation to establish a "common ground" to resolve conflict, negotiate learning, recognize rights, where responsibilities and consequences are modeled and explored.ABOUT YOU Enthusiasm and excitement for working with disengaged youth.Minimal Certificate IV qualification desirably in a youth or human services sector and/or the ability to obtain one within the first 12 months of employment.Previous experience in a youth or human services sector.Applicants must hold or have the ability to attain a current Blue Card before commencement as per the No Card No Start Blue Card system legislation.Ability to work within the four principles of Honest, Participation, Respect and Safe and Legal.Proficient computer literacy including the ability to learn various computer software systems and ability to train and support other staff.Local travel is a requirement of this position; therefore, it is a requirement that the applicant holds a current 'C' drivers license.WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU: Edmund Rice charism.Small group sizes with a flexible approach to learning.12.75% Superannuation contribution.Salary sacrificing benefits, including FBT exempt payments of up to $15,900 p/a.Induction, Wellbeing, and Professional Development Opportunities.Dedicated support to assist new youth workers.Remote area allowance.HOW TO APPLY: To apply for a position, please complete the application form below.
