About Us: The Central Land Council (CLC) is a corporate entity created by the Aboriginal Land Right (Northern Territory) Act, with an elected 90-member Aboriginal Council.
It has effectively fulfilled its statutory functions through representing, protecting and advocating for Aboriginal people's rights and interests for 50 years.
We now have an exciting opportunity available for a Senior Minerals and Energy Officer to join the Council and play a vital role in strengthening CLC's monitoring of social performance and engagement with resource companies.
Your Next Adventure: Central Land Council (CLC) is looking for a full-time Senior Minerals and Energy Officer - Major Projects based in Alice Springs, NT .
Reporting to the Manager – Minerals and Energy, this role supports the effective operation of the Minerals and Energy Section by assisting Aboriginal owners in making informed decisions about major development projects and ensuring compliance with relevant agreements and legislation.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coordinating CLC's contractual obligations for major minerals and energy projects Facilitating effective consultation with Aboriginal traditional owners to support informed decision-making Liaising with companies, government agencies, and stakeholders on project development and compliance Managing change processes and external stakeholder engagement for significant projects Reviewing and implementing recommendations for minerals and energy development agreements Developing and overseeing internal systems and processes to track project compliance Supporting the preparation of reports and submissions on relevant legislation, policies, and development proposals Ensuring alignment with environmental, cultural, social, and financial terms of agreements Managing project budgets and resources effectively Conducting remote fieldwork and facilitating meetings in diverse locations Advising and supporting team members on governance, monitoring, and compliance matters Staying up to date on best practices and providing high-level strategic and technical advice You'll also have the opportunity to attend remote meetings out in the community, allowing you to explore parts of Australia that most will never get to experience
What You'll Bring to the Team: To be considered for this role, you will need tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as environmental science, social science, engineering, or geology, and extensive experience in a related field .
Knowledge of mineral exploration, mining, onshore petroleum, or major infrastructure projects is also essential.
While not essential, project management and mining experience is highly regarded.
The following skills and experience will be strong assets:
Experience leading and managing a team Comprehensive industry knowledge and experience Policy and submission writing experience, especially in response to regulatory changes Project management skills and the ability to supervise team operations Strong organisational and communication skills Furthermore, a genuine love for the outdoors and a spirit of adventure will be essential , as this role occasionally involves working in remote and awe-inspiring locations alongside traditional Aboriginal landowners.
You'll ideally have a deep appreciation for Aboriginal society and culture , coupled with a keen understanding of the contemporary issues impacting Aboriginal communities .
We also welcome candidates who can demonstrate their ability to navigate cross-cultural environments with Indigenous populations, even in international contexts.
Your communication skills, both written and verbal, should be highly developed to effectively engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
A strong drive and initiative will be paramount, as will adaptability as it will empower you to confidently traverse complex landscapes, build collaborative relationships, and contribute to our shared mission.
Additional requirements include:
Ability to obtain an Ochre Card (Working With Children Check) from SafeNT and satisfactory National Police Clearance Current valid driver's licence, with the ability to drive long distances in a 4WD vehicle Ability to drive a manual vehicle (or ability to obtain such a license) Proficiency in the use of computers, particularly MS Office Suite programs The Benefits: In addition to a competitive salary of circa $87,077 up to $120,541 p.a.
+ 15.4% superannuation (depending on qualifications, skills, and experience), the successful candidate will receive a range of benefits from Central Land Council, including:
