Lead and shape the Misconduct and Appeals domains within the Division of the Academic Registrar, supporting academic excellence and enhancing the student experience.
About the opportunity
We are seeking an experienced leader for the role of Deputy Registrar and Executive Director (Misconduct, Complaints and Appeals).
Reporting directly to the Academic Registrar, this role is responsible for the strategic leadership, management, and continuous improvement of the Misconduct, Complaints, and Appeals domains within the Division of the Academic Registrar.
This position requires extensive professional judgment to ensure services are efficient, effective, and aligned with the University's mission and strategic goals.
A central focus of this role is to foster a student-centered approach, promote innovation, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities :
Provide strategic direction for the Misconduct and Appeals pillar, aligning with the strategic objectives of the Education Portfolio.
Exercise the delegated authority of the Deputy Registrar, making significant autonomous decisions and upholding internal and external policy alignment.
Oversee a broad range of Registrar functions, including misconduct investigations, setting conduct conditions, and imposing penalties, in consultation with the Academic Registrar.
Lead optimization of business processes to improve quality, efficiency, and the student experience, ensuring timely and effective resolution of issues.
Ensure compliance with higher education regulations, accreditation standards, and governance frameworks, leading internal audits and reviews to identify areas for improvement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external partners, representing the Academic Registrar in committees and working groups.
Mentor and develop the Misconduct, Complaints, and Appeals team, fostering a high-performance culture.
Oversee financial management for the work area and promote a culture of accountability, safety, and well-being within the division.
About you
Skills :
Proven ability to lead large teams and manage complex projects in a dynamic environment.
In-depth knowledge of higher education policies, regulations, and governance frameworks.
Demonstrated commitment to student success and service excellence.
Strong analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leadership across Faculties and Professional Service Units.
Outstanding professional judgement to make significant, independent decisions while ensuring alignment with policies and practices.
Excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes.
Experience :
Extensive leadership experience in higher education administration, with a strong track record of managing student services at scale.
Demonstrated experience in exercising delegations of authority and making timely decisions in relation to complex student matters within a complex regulatory environment.
Experience in business optimisation, transformation, and innovation within a large, complex organisation.
Proven management experience at a senior level; together with flexibility, capacity to adapt to changing circumstances and environments and, when necessary, navigating through ambiguity.
Demonstrated experience in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues.
Financial management experience and literacy, experience managing budgets and controlling income and expenditure.
Administrative experience in a tertiary organisation, working knowledge of academic institutions, structures and the higher education sector.
