Established by Wesley Mission in 1963, Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland is one of 41 proud members of the Lifeline Australia network.
Lifeline is Australia's largest national phone support service, answering over a million calls annually.
We support more than 30,000 people annually through our 13 11 14 crisis support service.
The Centre continues to grow its volunteer base and existing suite of support services within the community.
Role Overview
Lifeline Australia is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 88036).
It contracts Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland to provide accredited CHCSS00113 – Crisis Support Skill Set Training, which includes a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment of 3 Units of Competency.
The Trainer/Assessor delivers Lifeline training programs following Lifeline Australia and other contractual requirements aligned with Wesley Mission's strategic growth objectives.
The Trainer/Assessor assesses the competencies of students and interns to ensure they have the skills, knowledge, and capabilities required of a Lifeline Crisis Support Worker.
The role will guide and support student volunteers from the onset of their training journey through their internship until they successfully attain full accreditation status.
Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland also provides fee-for-service training and professional development for volunteers and staff, which the Trainer/Assessor will deliver.
Key Responsibilities
maintain Trainer Accreditation to meet Lifeline Australia's contractual requirements deliver CSWT training for Lifeline Sydney & Sutherland attend and participate in Lifeline Australia training forums and meetings as required, contributing to the national continuous improvement activities ensure the development and maintenance of professional knowledge and skills in existing areas of crisis support policy and practice, suicide, mental health, and domestic violence, amongst others contribute to and participate in the training program's future development, delivery and evaluation for trainee crisis supporters and advanced-role volunteers assist in the maintenance and further development of all training documentation and material.
identify conceptual issues and emerging needs in areas of volunteer crisis supporters and develop appropriate support plans for training liaise with other Lifeline staff on training, supervision, retention issues, and volunteer needs.
assist with the promotion of the Lifeline Training program.

Essential criteria
Qualifications
Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40122 or Adult Education Degree tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Counselling or equivalent social/behavioural sciences current CHCSS00113 – Crisis Support Skill Set.
Experience/Knowledge
demonstrated training experience and group facilitation knowledge of the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) environment knowledge of telephone counselling environment ability to be non-judgmental, supportive and maintain professional boundaries ability to relate to Crisis supporters from diverse age groups and backgrounds demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, building and promoting a positive and collaborative workplace ability to manage workloads and prioritise task.
Key competencies
demonstrated experience in delivering training and conducting assessments willingness to complete additional training as required, including relevant Lifeline Australia and additional trainer/assessor qualifications to maintain Trainer/Assessor accreditation effective time management and organisational skills with the ability to think laterally and work under pressure to achieve work deadlines in an environment with competing priorities whilst maintaining a high attention to detail.
consistent initiative, discretion, judgement, and tact of a high level, as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality in dealing with issues of a sensitive or personal nature.
strong interpersonal communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to develop and maintain sound working relationships with a range of stakeholders proficient office management skills, including the ability to analyse issues, establish a course of action and adopt a proactive attitude with appropriate direction ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, as well as cooperatively with others as required to support the achievement of individual and team goals current WWCC satisfactory National Criminal History Check current, unrestricted license and a willingness to drive between sites as required.
Desirable skills/knowledge
a passion for adult training and education experience working in a welfare/mental health setting experience supporting the delivery of accredited training or a Registered Training Organisation.
