To be eligible for this position you must be PGY 4 + by February 2025 POSITION OVERVIEW The Canberra Hospital is a major teaching centre for the ACT and surrounding regions and is strongly associated with The Australian National University Clinical School.
The Department of Paediatrics at The Canberra Hospital provides general paediatric services to approximately 450 inpatients and 1000 outpatients each month.
The Paediatric Endocrinology Advanced Trainee provides care for patients and families in both inpatient and outpatient settings at a level of skill and autonomy consistent with Advanced Training in Paediatric Endocrinology.
This is an opportunity for Trainees who are subspecialising in Endocrinology to gain further training in Paediatric Endocrinology.
The Advanced Trainee is a senior member of the Junior Medical Officer (JMO) team and will work closely within a multi-disciplinary team.
DUTIES Under limited direction of a Paediatric Endocrinologist you will perform assessments, undertake investigations and initiate management in both the inpatient and outpatient settings for children presenting with primarily endocrine disorders.
You will:
Clinical Duties: Provide competent and efficient clinical management of infants, children and adolescents with Endocrine Disorders under the supervision and direction of a Consultant Medical Practitioner(s). Work within a multidisciplinary clinical team. Participate in the after-hours on-call Paediatric Endocrine roster. Support junior medical staff in the management of acutely unwell Endocrine patients. Attend Regular Outpatient Paediatric Endocrine clinics. Maintain currency in Advanced Paediatric Life Support or attain it within three months of commencement. Complete hospital mandatory training in accordance with hospital guidelines. Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation. Education/ Research: Demonstrate progress in training including participation in relevant teaching program activities and involvement in research. Participate in ongoing professional development activities and encourage similar practices in departmental staff. Participate in the supervision, training and professional development of junior medical staff and medical students. Coordinate the teaching and orientation program for the JMO's. Clinical Leadership & Risk Management: Participate in clinical and/or organisational committees as determined by the Medical Unit director. Assist with the evaluation of and provision of feedback to junior medical staff with respect to performance. Support the evaluation of Hospital Services in relation to present and future needs and make recommendations to the Department as appropriate. Comply with the policies and requirements of the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency and policies of the ACT Health Directorate. Position Requirements / Qualifications Mandatory Be registered or be eligible for registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Advanced Paediatric Life Support or equivalent. Be registered under the Working for Vulnerable People Act. Completion of the written and clinical FRACP examinations. The successful applicant will need to be available for regular weekend and after-hours on call work. Proficient computer literacy skills, as you will be responsible for completing clinical documentation in the DHR and using other CHS IT systems. WHAT YOU REQUIRE These are the key selection criteria for how you will be assessed in conjunction with your resumé and experience.
Proven commitment and advanced clinical abilities in Paediatrics including at least 3 months clinical experience in Paediatric Endocrinology with a demonstrated ability to identify and manage common endocrine conditions. Proven verbal and written communication skills and ability to liaise effectively with other health professionals.
