Team Leader, Compliance And Disclosure

We are currently looking for a Team Leader to join our Compliance and Disclosure team.
This is a newly created role, full-time permanent (35 hours per week) with a hybrid working model, located in Martin Place in the heart of Sydney's CBD.About the teamThe Professional Standards Division (PSD) of the Legal Regulation Department investigates complaints about solicitors which are referred by the Legal Services Commissioner, disclosures made by solicitors as well as other referrals or made about solicitors.
It prepares reports for the Council of the Law Society of NSW and its Disclosure and Professional Conduct Committee as well as the Director, Legal Regulation.
In addition to its investigatory role, the Department has a litigation section conducting matters in the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
The Department also provides services and assistance to members by provision of general advice, ethics advice, costs and regulatory assistance and it has an educational role.About the roleYou will supervise a small legal team charged with the investigation and resolution of disclosures made by solicitors and other suitability and compliance matters under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) including preparing reports for the consideration of the Disclosure Committee, the Professional Conduct Committee and the Council of the Law Society of NSW.What you'll be doingLeading a team of investigators as it manages and resolves disclosures and other compliance and suitability issues under the Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) (eg reports of trust account investigations), including: advising and assisting team members on the management of individual matters;managing overall team and individual practice resources;reviewing and monitoring team functions and responsibilities including performance appraisals of team members; andactive case and practice management.Preparation of reports for the Disclosure Committee, the Professional Conduct Committee and Council of the Law Society of NSW, as appropriateExpeditious assessment, analysis and investigation of referrals about and disclosures made by solicitors including drafting relevant correspondence, notices and reports.Examination, investigation, research, report and make recommendations on disclosures by solicitors, and other matters impacting on their suitability to engage in legal practice including compliance with trust accounting obligations and practising certificate conditions.Liaison with solicitors, the Disclosure Committee, the Professional Conduct Committee, Council of the Law Society of NSW, Legal Services Commissioner and their staff.Active involvement in the Legal Regulation Department including legislative and legal development.Active case and practice management.Assist with the management of the Delegations RegisterAssist in creating and managing systems for reporting to OLSC, the Disclosure Committee and the Council of the Law Society of NSW, as appropriate.About youLegal Qualifications with extensive relevant legal experience.Admission as a lawyer.Supervisory and/or management experience will be highly regardedSound knowledge of Legal Profession Uniform Law (NSW) and related legislation.Good grasp of solicitor's accounting practice.Proven ability to use clear, concise language in correspondence and reports.Ability to plan and organise self and others to ensure the completion of tasks and to manage and support others to succeed in their roles.Ability to structure, engage and present information clearly.Demonstrated ability with regard to computer skills, including word processing capabilities, proficiency with e-mail and internet applications and data base applications and experience using programs, such as Microsoft Office.Demonstrates willingness and determination to set clear goals.Regulates own behaviour, comprehends organisational structure and culture and acts appropriately in the execution of duties.Ability to use information, knowledge and experience to analyse and form judgements.Behaves in an honest and trustworthy manner, treats others fairly and is open about one's own misjudgements and any conflicts of interest which may be present.Displays a commitment to quality client service, values the supplying of accurate and timely information and relates to people from diverse backgrounds.To applyThe Law Society of New South Wales is committed to building and maintaining a respectful and inclusive workplace, appointing the best person for the role and supporting diversity.
