ABOUT THE ROLE
Purpose – why this role is important
The Indigenous Participation Coordinator (QLD) is responsible for growing participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young peoples within the AFL's core programs - Auskick, Superkick, Nines, Community Football and Schools.
Guided by the Game Development Indigenous Action Plan and through partnerships and authentic community engagement, the Indigenous Participation Coordinator will deliver quality experiences across all football and fan engagement programs.
This role sits within the AFL QLD team and is based in Brisbane, Queensland.
The AFL considers that identifying as an Aboriginal or a Torres Strait Islander is a genuine occupational requirement for this position under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld).
Day in the life – what you will be responsible for

Coordinate and deliver strategies for AFL QLD that engage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation in football.
Organise and deliver a variety of AFL programs through schools, community events, and club environments.
Organise and deliver mass participation events that encourage participation in regional and remote areas of Queensland.
Foster and maintain relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community organisations and provide advice on engagement principles and protocols.
Support key national Indigenous events within QLD - NAIDOC Week, National Reconciliation Week, Sir Doug Nicholls Round and AFLW Indigenous Round.
Support the transition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people from Auskick/Superkick and school programs, to junior club football.
Contribute to other key projects and contribute to the success of the broader team.
Must haves – what's needed to help you be successful

Indigenous engagement

Demonstrated experience engaging and consulting with Indigenous communities
Expertise communicating in a culturally responsive way

Stakeholder Management

Demonstrated experience partnering with, and influencing, a diverse range of stakeholders
Relationship management across a geographically diverse team

Project Coordination and Program Delivery

Capacity to develop and implement community projects and activities to foster social inclusion and cohesion
Ability to coordinate processes, people and tasks
Effective time management
Strong analytical and negotiation skills
Passion for AFL program delivery

Experience & Qualifications
Mandatory:

Identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
High School Certificate
Certificate qualification in community, health, youth work, social work, or other related area
Class C Driver's license with reliable vehicle
Working with Children Check
National Police Certificate

Desirable:

First Aid Certificate
