Teacher Special Education - Sandy Beach Public School NSW Department of Education – Sandy Beach NSW
Sandy Beach Public School is situated north of Coffs Harbour, with a 2024 enrolment of 350 students in 14 classes.
This includes a Multi-Categorical support class which is partially integrated.
Approximately 14% of students identify as Aboriginal.
The school enjoys strong connections with the local community, working together to build a culture of high expectations.
Our school has a caring and dedicated team of teachers and support staff who work collaboratively with families to provide a wide range of programs catering for the individual needs of each student.
Through quality teaching, rich learning experiences, and respectful collaborative practice, we aim to inspire students to be resilient, self-motivated, and creative learners.
The school has a strong focus on improving literacy and numeracy outcomes, and staff are committed to the provision of quality programs, explicit teaching, and data-informed practice.
In 2025, the school is establishing an additional Multi-Categorical class, and we are looking for a passionate classroom teacher to join our team in this role.
Selection Criteria
Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with additional learning needs including autism, intellectual disabilities, and behavioural difficulties; with proven abilities to implement strategies to meet their communication, sensory, social, and challenging behavioural needs using trauma-informed practices.
Evidence of outstanding flexible classroom management skills that demonstrate the implementation of whole school wellbeing programs focused on improving student engagement, creating a positive learning environment, and promoting inclusive practices in all school settings.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate learning experiences for students with complex needs, develop individualised learning and support plans to maximise student growth, promote high expectations, and ensure engagement to meet the diverse needs of students, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to contribute to the whole school culture and work collaboratively to build positive relationships with students, staff, parents, external agencies, and members of the wider community.
ConditionsAn unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement.
If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
