Lead Developer and Creative TechnologistWe are seeking an individual with experience in lead developing and creative technology to join our Storytelling and Engagement team in this non-ongoing Executive Level 1 position for 12 months with the possibility of ongoing.As one of Sydney's most visited museums, the Australian National Maritime Museum shares our national maritime story across Australia and the world, online, onsite and through research, presentations and travelling exhibitions, providing must-visit museum experiences that delight and inspire.The Lead Developer and Creative Technologist is the senior technical expert responsible for the specification, system design, and development of innovative and engaging experiences including websites, applications, interactives, and other digital products and processes for the Museum.
This role will be a lead advocate of innovation in the application of technology within the Museum.Key AccountabilitiesUnder broad direction, this position is responsible for delivering the following functions:
Provide high level strategic advice and recommendations to the Head of Digital and Engagement, Content, and Insights team, and the wider museum cohort including other senior leadership and executives, on issues related to system design, development and implementation of innovative and emerging technologies.Ensure technical feasibility on design and implementation of scalable, optimised and creative digital experiences/prototypes that can be deployed across multiple platforms.Prototype and deliver audience focused digital experiences within timelines and budgetary constraints.Manage internal and external development, infrastructure, and technical teams, and lead the review of code and documentation for quality, compliance, standards, and best practices.Identify new and emerging hardware, software, and other technologies, assess their relevance and potential value to the Australian National Maritime Museum.Provide technical consultation and advice, and participate in, co-design, user experience and other research workshops, and cross-museum digital projects.Selection Criteria Broad and deep knowledge and experience of modern web development technologies, patterns, tools, and platforms.Experience managing teams of developers and designers, both local, remote, and external.Experience planning, costing, architecting, and delivery of large or complex technical projects.Demonstrated technical experience developing and maintaining Drupal 10+, NextJS/ReactJS/Typescript, Tailwind, GraphQL, and API integrations.A history of engaging and prototyping with emerging technologies and maintaining up to date knowledge of their capabilities and uses.Understanding and appreciation of user experience, design thinking, and customer centred design patterns.Experience working with cultural and government organisations.Experience with design and media production tools including image, layout, video, audio, 3d, and illustration.Technical competence in visualisation and immersive tools and technologies such as WebGL, D3, and Unity.Technical competence in other languages (Python) that support data processing and machine learning.When applying via our online e-recruitment system, please provide a written application addressing each Selection Criteria.
