We are the only national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural institution solely dedicated to telling the story of Australia's First Nations peoples. We collect, steward, and appropriately share Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' knowledge through our collection, our leadership in research, and our network of collaborations and partnerships by:
Creating opportunities for everyone to encounter, engage with, and be transformed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' rights, knowledge, cultures, and stories.Enhancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural vitality;Shaping our national narrative.Our functions are established under the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies Act 1989.
About the Group
The Partnerships and Engagement group leads and coordinates AIATSIS public engagement and communications works. This includes:
Providing access to the AIATSIS Collection and support clients undertaking Family History research.Marketing, communication, content production, event management services, and publishing.Facilitating the return of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage material held overseas;Developing AIATSIS commercial revenue streams and partnerships to further our mission.About the Program Area
The Return of Cultural Heritage (RoCH) program sits within the Partnership and Engagement Group. In close cooperation with communities, AIATSIS is leading the RoCH program to return Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural heritage material held overseas to Australia. AIATSIS facilitates the return of objects, photographs, audio-visual records, artwork, and archival items to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander custodians. AIATSIS enables custodians to make decisions about their cultural heritage material and through the return process, decides where and how their cultural heritage material is best cared for in the present.
Role Summary
We are seeking a meticulous and enthusiastic Research Data Coordinator to join the RoCH team. The Research Data Coordinator is responsible for developing and managing the Return of Cultural Heritage research database and data management for multiple ongoing research projects.
Key Responsibilities Database curation.Develop the database in collaboration with AIATSIS IT.Initiating processes for regular updates and quality controls.Importing, merging, and reconciling data from various internal and external sources.Automating processing using macros.Resolving data discrepancies.Producing and reviewing data reports.Developing data queries.Establishing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures for a variety of data-related activities.Liaising with external researchers and other stakeholders to manage research project data and create input processes.Providing advice to researchers for data cleaning and database use and documentation.Ensuring data practices comply with privacy regulation, ethical requirements, and Indigenous data sovereignty.Administrative tasks, collection research, and other duties as required.Cultural Capability - Essential
