Chapter Lead / Engineering Manager (API Gateway, AWS) You are passionate, driven, flexible and collaborative.

As a member of the API and Microservices crew, you will contribute to all aspects of the technology products and services we deliver, from technical strategy and design to coding to deployment to operation.
Our products and services are leveraged across all Business Unit Platforms within the Bank to deliver industry-leading software including: Comm Bank App Netbank Comm See Comm Sec Comm Biz Commbank.com.au As a Chapter Lead, you'll be providing expert advice relating to technology, solution design and architecture, people leadership and hiring to drive excellence in technical delivery as per group engineering practices and standards.
You will bring a perfect blend of people management and technical expertise, and will be responsible for shaping the evolution of the technical squad through contribution to the technology strategy, quarterly crew memo, prioritizing backlog, defining delivery roadmap, and determining which problems to invest in solving.
See yourself in our team Our Group API squad is responsible for delivering and maintaining our API Gateways & API Management platform, simplifying integration between both internal and external systems, and enabling squads to discover and request access to APIs.
Our Greenfield platform is built solely on AWS, with automated deployments managed via Git Ops.
You'll work on both project and BAU tasks, including establishment of our API portals, developing automation to simplify onboarding to our API gateways, and ensuring adherence to CBA's API standards.
We're interested in hearing from people who Have the ability to build, lead, and inspire an engaged team of engineers while also fostering an engineering culture of excellence.
Can contribute to the Bank's Engineering Management Practice by coaching and mentoring engineers and raising the bar for the discipline across the organization.
Can effectively communicate engineering practice standards and consistent ways of working across squads and CBA that align to global best practice.
Promotes open communication and creates a safe working environment where our engineers' voices are heard to achieve great outcomes for our organisation, our customers, and the community.
Can drive operational excellence and support teams in charge of mission-critical production services with diverse stakeholders and complex dependencies.
Encourages risk-taking and constructive challenge while growing diverse and inclusive teams.
Have established new ways of working, successfully advocated for new technology approaches, with the experience to understand the architectural integration of new software solutions.
Technical Skills: We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks.
We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these (or equivalents) will set you up for success in this team: Experience with foundational AWS services (EC2, ECS, Cloud Formation, Lambda, S3, Secrets Manager, KMS, IAM services etc.
).
Have a proven track record of leading high-performing engineering teams in a public cloud environment; AWS would be advantageous.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of API Gateway (Kong, AWS or similar) including design, implementation and support.
Proficient in cloud infrastructure automation (Cloud Formation, Terraform, Groovy, Jenkins etc.
).
Ability to engage with and communicate to stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and/or as part of a team.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
