The Early Support Facilitator provides family-centred support to parents and families of children referred to audiology after a newborn hearing screen by the Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP).
This role includes promptly initiating contact, coordinating services, and providing individualised information and assistance with decision-making.
Targeted support is offered to families of children newly diagnosed with hearing loss, helping them navigate the healthcare system, access early intervention resources, and connect with relevant services.The Early Support Facilitator advocates for unbiased, family-centred support that empowers families to make informed choices and promotes early engagement in intervention.
The role also involves building positive relationships with healthcare providers, supporting a collaborative approach, and contributing to quality improvement and professional development initiatives within VIHSP.Classification for this position will range from AO61-AO65 per annum, plus superannuation.What you'll achieve:Successfully provide compassionate, family-centred guidance and support, helping families navigate the diagnosis process and make informed decisions for their child's care.Prompt contact initiation with families within required timeframes, ensuring they receive timely access to audiology and early intervention services.Connect families to reputable information and community resources related to hearing loss, empowering them to explore suitable communication and intervention options.Build and maintain effective relationships with healthcare providers, agencies, and community organisations, fostering a supportive network for families of children with hearing loss.Actively contribute to program improvements, data accuracy, and compliance with quality standards, helping to uphold a high level of service within VIHSP.Your skills and experience:Demonstrated ability to provide compassionate, unbiased, and solution-focused support to families, adapting to their individual needs and empowering them through the decision-making process.Extensive understanding of diagnostic, medical, rehabilitation, and early intervention services for children with hearing loss, including familiarity with Deaf culture and language.Skilled in delivering clear, supportive, and professional communication, building trust with families and collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.Proven ability to manage caseloads efficiently, prioritise tasks, and meet critical timeframes, ensuring timely initiation of support and coordination of services.Competent in data entry and record-keeping, consistently maintaining accurate program documentation and monitoring KPIs for quality improvement.Experience working within a team-based environment, contributing to a positive culture, and actively participating in program development, training, and quality initiatives.About the DepartmentThe Victorian Infant Hearing Screening Program (VIHSP) is dedicated to early detection of hearing loss in newborns across Victoria, ensuring timely intervention and support for affected families.
