Legal Manager $173,885 per annum + superannuation Full time, Ongoing Melbourne based (hybrid working model – 3 days in the office) WorkSafe is Victoria's workplace health and safety regulator.

About the role The Legal Manager is primarily accountable for providing legal advice, guidance, instruction, direction and leadership in managing the timely delivery of in-house workplace and personal injury legal advice.
The Legal Manager also has responsibility for overseeing and advising on judicial reviews and other ad hoc litigation, as well as being responsible for complaints, privacy and freedom of information (FOI).
The Legal Manager engages deeply and works collaboratively with members of the Medical Panels Convening team, Panel Members and the Medical Panels Director.
Key accountabilities: Develop and manage key strategic legal based relationships with the Medical Panels Convenor, Convening Team, Panel Members, Medical Panels Director, Management Team, Workplace Injury Commission, Courts, the Director of Corporate Legal and other stakeholders including law firms Lead a large team of in-house lawyers to provide legal and specialist advice on personal injury and public law issues within strict legislative timeframes and in an environment with a high degree of scrutiny and risk Provide expert legal, policy and strategic advice to the Convenor, Director and Panel Members in exercising the powers of Medical Panels' under the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and the Wrongs Act 1953 Develop strategic and operational policies, programs and initiatives to guide the successful delivery of Medical Panels operations, as well as being responsible for the delivery of Medical Panels legal operations and service Prepare briefing papers and correspondence for the Minister, the Department of Treasury and Finance, the Convenor and Director on matters requiring their attention.

About you You are an experienced Legal professional with extensive post admission experience and extensive people management experience.
You have led large teams and you have specialist knowledge of the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 and the Wrongs Act 1953.
Your verbal communication is excellent and you have an ability to quickly build rapport with others.
Furthermore, you will also possess: Substantial experience as a legal practitioner working within the WorkCover Scheme and/or public law decision making and dispute-resolution Significant experience in leading a high performing team with accountability for service delivery High-level strategic, analytical and critical legal decision-making capabilities that include high level judgement in identifying and managing the resolution of issues of strategic impact and importance Ability to interpret general policy framework to make decisions in the absence of definitive operational policies Proven ability to consult on complex and sensitive issues within critical timeframes and offer respectful, constructive solutions and an ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with key stakeholders Ability exercise sound judgement and facilitate positive outcomes with stakeholder support.
Qualifications : Professional legal qualifications with admission to practice as a Barrister or Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria.
A full practicing certificate.
A minimum of 7 years post admission experience.
