About the opportunityJohn Holland's Sunshine Coast team is expanding to reflect the enormous State and Federal Government investment into the region over the next 10-15 years.
As part of this growth, we are looking to engage with established Commercial Managers to work on major projects spanning Energy, Tunnels, Dams, Water and Transport Infrastructure.
About the positionBased on the Sunshine Coast, you will lead the commercial function and oversee commercial activities for major tenders and / or projects commencing in 2025.
Responsibilities of the role includeEnsure project managers, contract administrators and all relevant project staff understand and comply with commercial requirements in contracts with customers and major/high risk subcontracts as per policies, procedures and guidelinesAttend contract acceptance and contract review meetings as necessary to ensure commercial and contract administration issues comply with contract requirements, policies and proceduresInterpret the tender and apply the commercial and contractual agreement both at Head Contract and Sub Contract level as per Security of Payments Act.Manage commercial issues, minor and major contract disputes when delegated by senior managementAssist contract administrators and project managers as needed in commercial matters e.g.
claims, contractual issues, disputes, preparing subcontract terms and conditions, and setting up administration procedures on and off site with accountingReview and approve acceptance or proposed major / high risk subcontracts and any other subcontracts as instructed by senior managementLead identification and quantification of Head Contract scope changes and all subsequent negotiations with the clientNegotiate contract terms and conditions with customers/subcontractors as authorised by senior management in liaison with project management, as per policies, procedures and guidelinesUndertake post-contract completion reviews, analyse results, undertake corrective actionsStakeholder management: Ensure that stakeholders are actively engaged and that beneficial relationships between the project and the client, subcontractors, community and other external parties are developed and maintainedPeople management: Establish and develop a high-performance team to ensure the project has the capability to achieve targetsFinancial management: Ensure strong contract, commercial and financial risk management, accurate forecasting of both costs and revenue, take corrective action in line with authority and reporting frameworks and maximise the profit margin for the projectTo be successful in this role, you will haveBachelor's Degree or equivalent in Law, Commerce, Accounting, Quantity Surveying, Business or other associated disciplines.7 years' + experience in commercial and contract administration gained on construction, engineering or associated major projects.2-5 Years' experience in a commercial management rolePost graduate qualifications e.g.
graduate certificate, graduate diploma in Commerce, Accounting, Quantity Surveying, Business, Construction, Property, Law or other associated disciplines is desirableAdvanced skills in procedures for project contract administration, general business administration and project management.Reporting and compliance with respect to commercial performance and legislation/ code to prevent potential business exposure.Understand scope of works for the project and regions and business units and each subcontracted section of works including the ability to interpret drawings and specifications.Skill in quantitative and qualitative risk assessment and development of risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects.As part of the team, you can help us transform lives.Your success is reflected in ours, so we're committed to being an employer of choice.
