Career Medical Officer - Emergency Medicine Ballina District Hospital An exciting opportunity is available at Ballina District Hospital for an Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officer (CMO).
The successful applicant will have a minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience, including extensive, recent experience in emergency medicine / critical care medicine and will be required to participate in a 24/7 roster, including day, evening, or night shifts.
The CMO will be responsible for providing independent, high-level medical care, including the assessment, investigation, and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department.
They will be supervised by specialist staff and provide supervision and support to the Junior Medical staff in the Emergency Department.
This position also serves to support the completion of the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC) or Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD) through the Australian College of Emergency Medicine.
Where you'll be working The Ballina District Hospital (BDH) sees over 14,000 presentations per annum.
The Emergency Department is a 9 bed unit staffed by a highly qualified medical team of Career Medical Officers, Emergency Specialists, and Nursing staff providing care to patients of all ages with critical and acute illnesses.
BDH works closely with other facilities within the Northern NSW Local Health District, and if necessary, patients may be transferred to another site for continuing care.
The Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.
Our region encompasses World Heritage listed rainforests and the pristine beaches of Evans Head, Ballina, Lennox Head and Byron Bay.
This area is blessed by year-round sun, a tropical climate and a short winter.
From lush hinterland villages to Mount Warning, national parks, and sparkling beaches, the region is full of natural wonders and vibrant destinations all within a short drive from Lismore.
What you'll be doing The primary purpose of the Career Medical Officer (CMO) is to provide independent, high-level medical care, including responsibility for the assessment, investigation, and initial management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and admitted to inpatient wards.
The CMO will be supervised by specialist staff and provide supervision and support to junior medical staff in the Emergency Department.
Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements for the role (please address these in your response) A minimum of 3 years of postgraduate experience, including extensive, recent experience in emergency medicine / critical care medicine Advanced ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery, and coordination of patient care. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety, and risk management. Advanced organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment. Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to self-education. Demonstrated competency in clinical skills including advanced life support with ability to perform ALS procedures (including endotracheal intubation and insertion of central lines, arterial lines, and intercostal catheters), interpreting patient history, physical examination, pathology, ECG, and radiological investigations to diagnose simple and complex Emergency Medicine presentations.
