Principal Project Officer

Support the Healthcare Improvement Unit in this exciting full time, fixed-term temporary role. As the Principal Project Officer you will provide support in leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of local and system-wide innovative models of care, patient flow frameworks and service enhancement initiatives aimed at improving the quality and value of clinical services in accordance with the strategic direction of the Department.
This role requires a highly motivated and skilled professional to lead and manage healthcare improvement initiatives in a complex clinical and operational environment, aligning with Queensland Health's core values. The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, monitoring, and evaluating projects that enhance healthcare service delivery while preparing high-level briefings, submissions, and reports that align with Healthcare Improvement Unit goals and broader organizational and government priorities. The role also involves supporting the Unit to provide expert, timely advice to senior stakeholders, including the Minister, Director-General, and executive management team, on critical issues impacting statewide healthcare delivery.
A key aspect of this role is fostering positive, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across the health sector, ranging from front-line clinicians to executive leaders. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills, including consultation, presentation, negotiation, and influencing, to achieve project goals effectively. Working within a dynamic team environment, the role will contribute to the Healthcare Improvement Unit's strategic priorities, with the flexibility to manage additional duties as directed by the Directors or Executive Director.
The successful person Success in this role requires a strong history of leading projects or initiatives that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of healthcare service delivery. You will bring advanced project management expertise, including establishing governance frameworks, defining objectives, setting priorities, and effectively coordinating activities to meet deadlines, all while delivering measurable and sustained results.
Additionally, you will possess knowledge and practical experience in process improvement, implementation, and evaluation methodologies within the healthcare sector. Your background should also include applying change management strategies to address complex cultural and practice-related challenges in health settings.
