No Offer Description PhD Scholarship: Unlocking the Synergistic Potential of Minor Cannabinoids – Analytical and Mechanistic Studies Location Macquarie University (Wallumattagal Campus, North Ryde), ARC Training Centre for Facilitated Advancement of Australia's Bioactives.
The opportunity We are offering a fully funded 3-year PhD scholarship (AU $38,500 per year) for a domestic or international student at the ARC Training Centre for Facilitated Advancement of Australia's Bioactives (FAAB).
FAAB is a multidisciplinary consortium comprising five universities and 16 industry partners, providing innovative training in technical and transferable skills for careers in bioactives research and development.
This project combines advanced analytical chemistry and cell biology to investigate the therapeutic potential of minor cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids in cannabis formulations.
The successful candidate will work closely with our industry partner, gaining valuable experience in translational research and industrial applications of cannabinoid pharmacology.
As an ARC Training Centre, FAAB emphasises building the future research workforce.
Therefore, professional development activities beyond your specific research topic will be part of this scholarship, equipping you for success in modern R&D workplaces.

The project The project aims to uncover the synergistic roles of minor cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids in the pharmacological effects of cannabis strains.
Key objectives include: Profiling minor cannabinoids using state-of-the-art analytical chemistry techniques.
Evaluating binding kinetics, potency, and functional affinity of cannabinoids to CB1, CB2, and TRP channels.
Investigating the combinatorial effects of cannabinoids and terpenes on receptor binding and cellular responses.
You will be embedded in a diverse, multicultural academic team and have opportunities to engage directly with industry partners.
The candidate We are seeking a highly motivated candidate with a passion for bioactive research and a strong background in analytical chemistry and cell biology.
A Master's degree (or equivalent) in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology, or a related field.
Experience with techniques such as HPLC, LC-MS/MS, fluorescence assays, or receptor binding studies.
Skills in cell culture, receptor transfection, and functional assays (e.g., mammalian cell lines like HEK293, AtT20).
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment.
