At the SEC, we are building an enterprising and dynamic team to accelerate Victoria's transition to renewables and help achieve Victoria's renewable energy target of 95% by 2035.
Your role
As the Government Liaison Adviser at SEC, you will work directly with the Principal Adviser to support the provision of strategic advice to the Office of the CEO, which includes the CEO and Chief of Staff, and to coordinate communication and documentation between the SEC, and Ministerial offices and government departments.
You will work across the business units at SEC to source advice, identify solutions to problems, and prepare materials for government stakeholders.
You will do this by building networks of trust-based relationships with key government stakeholders to support the work of the organisation.
What you will do:
Core accountabilities include:
Stakeholder Relationships : Build and maintain strong relationships with SEC's government stakeholders, identifying leverage points and managing opportunities or issues within a complex matrix of internal and external relationships to support the SEC's objectives.
Critical thinking and problem solving : Provide strategic advice to the CEO and Chief of Staff on government engagement, considering the broader business context to resolve issues and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of work processes within the SEC and in collaboration with Government Departments.
Policy advice and recommendations : Formulate and communicate policy advice and recommendations in response to government requests, ensuring alignment with SEC's strategic plans, community needs, complementary programs, and government shareholder priorities.
Process design, coordination and delivery : Develop and coordinate work plans involving internal and external stakeholders, ensuring efficient responses to government agency requests, facilitating SEC's reporting and engagement with Ministers, and actively managing risks to ensure successful delivery.
Who you are:
Your capabilities and areas of expertise that matter most for this role are:
Understanding of government processes and public sector governance, with proven experience in public sector or government relations roles.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, capable of producing high-quality documentation for information, engagement, and approval.
Proven ability to deliver outcomes in complex policy, regulatory, and technical environments, working with both government and non-government stakeholders.
Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and quality.
Highly Desirable:
Nice to have in addition to the Core capabilities and skills (desirable skills or experiences):
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Significant and demonstrable experience in producing complex written materials in a timely manner.
Demonstrated experience in tailoring communications to a given audience in order to achieve desired outcomes.
A track record of supporting the delivery of outcomes in challenging and complex policy, regulatory and/or technical environments with government and non-government stakeholders.
An existing knowledge of the electricity market or utilities sectors (advantageous).
