We offer crisis accommodation and housing services, alternative high school education, alcohol and other drugs counselling, youth justice support, life skills and employment programs, cultural support and community engagement, among other services.
We focus on early interventions that empower young people and strengthen communities.
Not all children and young people thrive in mainstream schools.
Our registered and accredited independent high schools offer a flexible alternative for students in Years 9–12.
We operate six independent high schools that are registered and accredited with the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA).
Youth Off The Streets is also a member of the Association of Independent Schools of NSW (AISNSW).
About the role:The Lead Psychologist will play a pivotal role in advancing YOTS' strategic vision by leading the Mental Health Team (MHT) across our schools.
This position involves providing high-level supervision and training, ensuring consistent application of trauma-informed and culturally responsive care practices.
The Lead Psychologist will also uphold ethical and regulatory standards, ensuring best practices in assessment, confidentiality, and risk management to enhance the psychological and social support provided to our students.
Some key responsibilities of this role include:Supervising and mentoring school counsellors and psychologists, ensuring ethical standards and professional development.Foster a supportive environment aligned with trauma-informed care and Sanctuary principles.Design and deliver training programs, workshops, and assessments to enhance team expertise.Support staff in maintaining professional memberships and development requirements.Implement evidence-based interventions and conduct performance evaluations.Standardize processes for assessments, risk management, and recordkeeping.Develop and implement mental health programs tailored to student needs.Provide expert consultation and develop resources for consistent service delivery.Align psychological services with organizational policies and goals.Report on mental health program outcomes and participate in executive meetings.Liaise with families and communities, promoting trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.Facilitate psychoeducation for families and stakeholders.Knowledge, skills and abilities required:Leadership in team supervision and training.Expertise in trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.Strong understanding of ethical standards, regulatory requirements, and Child Safe principles.Proficiency in assessments, risk management, and crisis intervention.Analytical skills for complex situations.High empathy and emotional intelligence.Extensive experience in CBT and DBT.Commitment to ethical and legal standards.Promotion of youth participation and adherence to YOTS' codes of conduct.Maintenance of privacy and confidentiality.Requirements:The person we seek will ideally have the following:
Education QualificationBachelor or postgraduate degree majoring in PsychologyCommitment to completion of annual mandatory training modulesRegistered Psychologist with AHPRA.Advanced training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, DBT, trauma-focused care).Minimum of 5 years' experience in school or youth-focused settings, with expertise in trauma-informed care.Demonstrated experience in supervising clinical staff and managing complex mental health cases.Experience with culturally responsive practices, particularly for First Nations students.Certifications & LicencesCurrent registration with NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA)Working with children's check, police check, valid driver's licence and full Australian working rightsWhat we can offer you:A supportive team environmentCareer progression and development pathwaysEAP for yourself and your familySalary packaging up to $15,900Rewards and benefits programTo ApplyPlease ensure you enclose a copy of your resume with your contact details and cover letter addressing the essential criteria (2 pages maximum).
