The Role
Reporting to the Director of Architecture, the Senior Data Architect will work as part of the architecture team and as part of a multi-disciplinary agile delivery team.
As part of the architecture team, you may be asked to develop architecture standards, consult with relevant stakeholders, and work directly with delivery teams on matters relating to standards and architectures.
You will work collaboratively with other Architects and technical platform SMEs, on DEWR's digital solutions.

As part of delivery teams, you will work in fast paced agile MDT team(s) with Lead Delivery Managers, Business Representatives, Service Designers, System and Business Analysts.
You will manage complex solution architecture challenges and decisions, working with the teams to design modern and scalable applications and solutions.
You will provide guidance, coaching, and mentoring to less experienced staff as needed on matters related to DEWR's digital systems.

As a senior technical specialist, you will not have any staff supervisory responsibilities.

You will provide knowledge leadership within your Architecture domain.
As part of your leadership responsibilities, you will work to communicate and explain architecture issues and decisions to various business and technical executives.
You will work closely with senior technical resources to build knowledge and understanding of architecture practices as part of capability building within the department and the division.

You will report on the work of your area.
You will actively work to identify and manage issues that block progress and escalate to the Director of Architecture and Chief Architect as required.
You will work to refine processes and approaches to refine team practices and delivery and may be part of forward planning of architecture direction.

You will work independently under broad direction to deliver agreed objectives and outcomes.
The successful applicant will receive the necessary training, mentoring, and guidance to perform the key responsibilities of the role and to advance their careers in the Australian Public Service (APS).

The key duties of the position include
Duties and Responsibilities Responsibilities of the EL2 may include:
Support implementing DEWR's data strategy, plans and roadmaps including governance policies and standards to maintain data quality, security, and compliance.
Review design requests for use of DEWR's Data Analytics Platform.
Develop DEWR's data and analytics platform strategy, roadmap and reference architecture.
Develop and review conceptual, logical, and physical data models to ensure data consistency, integrity, and accuracy.
Establish data integration patterns and methodologies to ensure seamless data flow across various systems and applications.
Assist with the implementation of data lifecycle management practices, including data security classification, data retention, archiving, and data purging.
Providing architectural guidance and leadership for sound decision-making by providing expert advice that considers business processes and the longer-term strategic roadmap.
Developing and managing data architecture principles, patterns, standards, and roadmaps - including assessing architectural and business risk.
Assisting solution teams, working with the Solution Architect to understand a project's data requirements and impacts.
Maintain awareness of emerging technologies, tools, and standards as a contribution towards continuous improvements and technology opportunities within DEWR.
Participate in Whole of Government initiatives as a Subject Matter Expert as required.
