Working under general direction, the Senior Technical Officer provides expert advice to academic staff and students to ensure delivery of technical support for teaching practicums and research projects, as well as to the other technicians responsible for the delivery of laboratory services and functioning in line with the strategic direction of the Faculty.
The Technical Services Team delivers outstanding support to students, academics, and researchers for enhancing education and research output.
The Technical Services Team provides a platform for collaboration across the University, broad industry involvement, and community engagement through focused customer service based on exceptional personnel skills and expertise.
The Technical Services Team works closely with Academics and professional teams, as well as the Infrastructure Branch, to ensure efficient utilization of teaching, office, workshop, and laboratory space.
Being committed to Health, Safety, and Wellbeing (HSW) values, the team manages safe operations across the Faculty labs and workshops.
The Technical team Electronics and Instrumentation supports activities across numerous disciplines in the SET faculty, in areas of general electronics and microcontrollers, instrumentation, data acquisition, robotics, and automation, for the delivery of undergraduate teaching, postgraduate education, and research including industry partners.
To be successful you will need:
Demonstrated high-level expertise and experience in electronic, electrical, or mechanical laboratory environments, including the installation, use, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment.
Demonstrated advanced proficiency in electronics, data acquisition systems, and relevant software, with expertise in tools like LabVIEW and National Instruments (NI) DAQ systems.
Proven ability to design and manufacture specialized electronic and electrical equipment, coupled with strong analytical skills for effective problem-solving and user support.
Advanced computer literacy and technical skills relevant to electronic engineering.
Knowledge of Work Health and Safety management requirements relating to a laboratory environment.
High level organizational skills and an ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines, and the ability to prioritize tasks and assignments.
