About This Opportunity This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Fellow in Remote Sensing to contribute their extensive scientific leadership skills and high-level expertise in remote sensing and spatial science, computing, data science, geography, and landscape ecology.
The Senior Research Fellow will lead and direct research and development of remote sensing and satellite image processing methods as part of a collaborative University and State Government partnership that focuses on "research to operations" in support of programs and policy that are addressing some of Queensland's, Australia's, and the world's most significant environmental challenges, often over large areas.

This position is funded by the Queensland Government's Department of Environment, Tourism, Science, and Innovation (DETSI) and the incumbent will be expected to work closely with the Joint Remote Sensing Research Program (JRSRP) and DETSI team in helping to undertake priority research tasks and in the day-to-day application of that research for operational outcomes.
The position will ideally be primarily located with the DETSI team at the EcoSciences Precinct, Dutton Park, Brisbane, but flexible work arrangements can be negotiated.
You will leverage your established record of achievement and recognition in the discipline(s) to continue to maintain and develop your own reputation and that of the partnership.

Key Responsibilities Lead and direct earth observation research and development activities for the JRSRP.
Lead and contribute to the implementation of the JRSRP's governance arrangements and strategic planning, particularly the formulation and implementation of the Research Plan, by providing high-level technical direction, advice, coordination, and managerial expertise to the JRSRP.
Develop and/or improve methods for processing remotely sensed data, contributing to the curation of appropriately corrected and consistent satellite, airborne, and ground-based image archives.
Develop and apply appropriate contemporary methods to active and/or passive sensor data to map and monitor biophysical attributes at a range of scales.
Work with others to contribute to the maintenance and improvement of a common remote sensing research development environment across the JRSRP partners to enhance research and adoption capability.
Produce high-quality science and research outputs and publish and present methods and outcomes through reputable scientific outlets and related forums, and contribute to the transfer and translation of knowledge, technology, and practices to JRSRP partners and end users, as required.
Maintain a high-level research profile through engagement and meaningful collaboration with the international earth observation science community and other relevant organisations and researchers.

About You A minimum of a completion of PhD or an equivalent level of experience in remote sensing, mathematics, physics, science, geography, or other related areas.
A proven profile in research and development of methods for correction, processing, and analysis of satellite imagery and other earth observation, preferably for environmental monitoring applications.
High-level technical knowledge of, and skills in, contemporary computing technologies and data science for managing and processing large data sets.
A well-developed publication record and/or an established record of achieving high-impact outcomes, demonstrated through high-quality reports and/or publications, presentations, the delivery, reporting, and visualisation of data and results, or through the uptake of research outcomes in government, industry, or the public domain.
Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate a multidisciplinary portfolio of research, preferably with a focus on impactful operational outcomes.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment to deliver project-specific products and activities.
Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and develop research staff including staff in partner organisations and undergraduate and Research Higher Degree students.
Demonstrated ability to successfully lead, initiate, implement, and contribute to change and continuous improvement initiatives.
Proven ability to communicate effectively with internal and external clients, with an ability to work independently or collaboratively with colleagues, project partners, and stakeholders.
Proven skills to handle complex issues and to provide high-level strategic, technical, and operational advice and recommendations.
