Your Opportunity Mission Australia is looking for a Student Community Chaplain to join us in a new role on Mornington Island where you will have an opportunity to study and become a trusted Chaplain in our team.
This is a unique opportunity to be a bridge between local churches, police, council, and other community services, helping to bring compassion, hope, and practical support to those in need.
As a Chaplain, you'll work closely with Mission Australia services, community groups, and residents, assisting individuals and families from targeted communities.
Your role will involve guiding people through complex situations, offering spiritual support, and connecting them with the right resources.
You'll be a neutral, trusted presence in the community, helping to bring people together, promote healing, and foster a sense of hope and wholeness.
If you're passionate about supporting others on their journey and building stronger community connections, this role is for you.
Your key responsibilities will be to: Engage in further education activities and attend in-person training in Darwin (twice per year).
Be available to listen to community members who have a need to talk about personal issues and circumstances.
Provide pastoral care, information, and support to community members empowering them to explore future goals, grow, and confront personal challenges (and negative patterns of behaviour when necessary).
Support MA staff in interactions with community members and engage with community members with whom MA and other services have difficulty connecting.
Guided by the Senior Chaplain/Chaplain Mentor, connect and build relationships with local churches and Christian organisations to promote opportunities to offer support for MA clients/tenants.
Participate in local church and community events, activities, and celebrations.
Comply with core responsibilities set out in the MA Child & Youth Safe policies, procedures, and supporting documents to practice as required by the role.
Facilitate the engagement of church and Christian organisation programs with community groups and personal development opportunities.
Be available to support and connect community members who express a desire to explore their spirituality to local groups.
Develop strong relationships with MA staff to facilitate effective community care and improved service outcomes.
Ensure that all required internal and external participant documentation is completed and kept on file.
Complete a range of other administrative duties for the efficient running of the service including statistics, reports, referral letters, and goal plans.
Requirements for Success Demonstrate knowledge of the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations.
Current driver's license.
Willingness to study or studying towards a Degree/Diploma/Certificate IV in Chaplaincy/Ministry or a minimum of three years' experience in a similar role in a Christian Church or Community Sector.
A comprehensive understanding of the issues and needs of program target group and working with churches.
Demonstrated ability to work cross-denominationally while maintaining the Bible as the inspired word of God.
Experience in local churches, case management, counselling, or pastoral work.
Experience working with and for communities in a self-reflective and creative way that facilitates community self-determination.
Influential communication skills - verbal, listening, written, and digital.
Willingness to comply with relevant legislation e.g.
the Privacy Act, EEO and Anti-Discrimination.
Computer literate in a MS Office/Windows/Outlook environment is desirable.
Ongoing commitment to personal and spiritual growth in the Christian faith and active membership in a local church community.
