General/Business Unit Manager (CEO & General Management) Full time The General Manager has full operational and P&L responsibility for PowerTarps, managing all staff, customer and supplier relationships, while working with others in the group to execute the business plan to grow the business.
The role will require some technical know-how and oversight, but this can be learned from the outgoing MD during the handover.
For the right candidate, there may be other opportunities within the group including involvement in M&A, business development, strategy and other activities.
Company Overview PowerTarps is a leader in the automated retractable tarping system space serving customers in mining and infrastructure across Australia and New Zealand.
Sister company DuraTec makes bespoke truck curtains for various applications in the same premises.
Key Responsibilities Workshop & Customer Service Leadership Lead the workshop staff to continue to be the best in the businessDevelop staff skills and maintain a culture of high performance, camaraderie and contentmentEnsure the customer remains at the centre of what we do and that the staff provide excellent customer serviceTechnical oversight of each area of the business and be a sounding board on technical questions for staff and customersOversight of ordering/inventory management to ensure business never runs outBusiness Growth Work with CEO, former MD and other team members on selling PowerTarps products and services to underserviced markets & clientsProactively assess and recommend initiatives to grow revenue and profitability – e.g.
through better sourcing, new re-seller partnerships, product modifications, new verticals, better staffing, etc.Responsibility for profitability including through efficient scheduling, pricing reviews, cost management, upselling, etc.Ensure that staff utilise appropriate software to keep accurate records and allow us to track key performance indicators (KPIs)Monitor KPIs and make or suggest improvementsHR Foster a positive and collaborative work culture that aligns with the company's values and continues to produce top tier resultsLead the recruitment, development and retention of workshop staff that live the values of the businessStakeholder Management Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and other key stakeholdersEnsure prudent safety measures are implemented and followed to minimise injuries to staff, customers and visitorsWork with other parts of the organisation and the shareholders in areas such as sourcing, marketing, sales, finance and M&ACandidate Requirements Proven track record in working in or with high performing organisationsMechanical aptitude / able to pick up technical conceptsExcellent communication and critical thinking skillsIndependent, ambitious, self-motivated, but low egoAble to work with multi-cultural and socio-economically diverse staff and customersWillingness to travel inter-state and to NZ occasionally as neededYour application will include the following questions:
